Nowhere near as many people are going to be 'compliant' this time round. Nobody's frightened anymore and everyone's tired of being ordered about.
Polls have always shown the overwhelming majority of people are in favour of measures to slow infections. Thankfully the loud shouty morons who infect social media are in the minority. Most people see that wearing a mask is a small thing to maybe help others.

I fully agree but there needs to be greater awareness and discussion about what that actually means. There are huge stockpiles of vaccinations in both South Africa and Uganda that are going to waste. It's partly to do with the logistics of administering them, of course, but it's also largely due to a vaccine hesitancy that is deeply rooted in cultural belief. That is a problem medicine faces around the world and one that predates this pandemic. The West can manufacture and deliver the vaccines but unless they get into the people, the risk of more and deadlier variants arising in countries such as South Africa remains.
i totally agree, but the early data from sa is showing the unvaccinated are the ones predominantly affected, i hope this might change some minds

I can't take the word "totalitarianism" seriously in a COVID context when there are people living under regimes where using Internet isn't even possible, or you daren't speak out against leadership for fear of a triple family generation life sentence breaking rocks in a camp and eating undigested corn out of chicken shit for sustenance. Things aren't ideal but we seriously don't have it that bad.

This might be a daft question but I'll ask it anyway as I don't know the answer.

The new rules say that anyone coming into contact with a positive omicron case must isolate for 10 days. But how do you know from a simple PCR test if someone has tested positive for omicron and not delta? The results are just negative/positive for COVID-19, aren't they? Or are they now sequencing every single test to check for particular strains (seems unlikely and presumably takes a lot longer)?

A noble effort but anyone who has done WFH knows it’s a piss take and never can be as effective as being on site. Not saying some individual’s don’t make it work but the majority take advantage, working through commute hours just doesn’t exist

The worst culprits at the moment are the Civil Servants and the likes of GP Centre’s. HMRC have issued me with a fine even though I told them my accounts would be late because my (not in the proprietal way) Accountant died suddenly, they just won’t discuss the situation, blaming it on COVID and say “write to us”.

Struggling to tell if this is sarcasm or not….

Polls are not representative of the majority and the questions are structured to guide you into answering a certain way. Proof will be in the pudding anyway, you'll see.

So the question is - how many more years are we going to have to face disruption to our way of life?

Face masks, lockdowns, PCR tests, self isolation - who wants to live like that indefinitely?
Hospital numbers are falling and have been for weeks but Boris has to be seen to do something to pacify all the wet lettuces out there.

I respectfully disagree. I started a new job in May and in that time have done 4 days in office until we got put back on full time WFH measures until January minimum (Ireland based). The only benefit for me being in office is being able to ask questions in person rather than waiting for a reply on Microsoft Teams. I am more likely to stay on beyond 5pm at home, have consistently hit target too.

That's not what the Dutch website says. Those two flights were stopped even though they arrived prior to New restrictions being enforced. From 12noon on the 26th November any flight arriving from a number of african countries you had to have taken a pcr test prior to boarding your flight and quarantine on arrival and would only be allowed in if your a Dutch national or EU state national in transit.

I was talking about the testing of passengers on arrival at Schiphol. I'm not even sure whether all PCR tests can identify the new variant, so we're relying on everyone quarantining and testing.

We're so lucky that the traditional 10-15 years of testing has been reduced to 100 days. Hopefully the next round of jabs can be cooked up and put in arms by drones within a week.
it’s never been 10-15 years of testing.

Plus It’s not a new vaccine now. Just a Tweek the the existing ones. We do it to every flu vaccine every year.

Every stage of restrictions has been observed by probably 99.odd% of the population. Like i said the selfish morons on here and other social media platforms just shout the loudest. They are a very thick minority. Nice conspiracy theory in your 1st sentence though.

For every one of you and Bluehammer theres 10 others taking the piss, especially Civil Servants, local government workers and GP’s all of who take an age to even answer the phone. My Doc is still WFH, appointments are over the phone only, limited to mornings.

It took my mate nearly a year to process his Dad’s probate and trying to get info from the HMRC is turgid at best. They’re all WFH and it’s not effective.

I have done WFH in the past, it’s easier because you just don’t have interruptions, however, you also don’t help out with tasks that are not really your job but do so to assist for missing or over stretched colleagues. It may just be answering the phone but that can be important if there’s a potential or existing client on the other end. The ideas pool is also not there when everyone is working remotely. For lone workers it’s ideal but I can understand why businesses want their staff back, even on a part time basis.

It’s no surprise that we have slapped arses who refused to wear masks , use to work with people who wouldn’t wear masks or use ventilation equipment when welding or grinding , quite a few wouldn’t wear ear defenders . It use to be a constant battle telling them to do it for compliance with health and safety. Think it was a mixture of stupidity and a machismo front .

We're work from home permanently now with the exception of big team meetings. Our productively is miles better now. And even customer service are 3 days a week wfh and 2 days in the office. Proper boomer mentality on you haha.

Sacrificed enough?

Fuck me that about sums it up, pmsl
It's fucking mind boggling just how weak the mentality is with some isn't it?
Sacrificed enough
Being ordered about

I mean, these shithouses are so lucky they were born when they were. We'd be most likely talking German if they were around 80 years ago.

He’s probably just jealous as he can’t grow one… I’ll be wearing a snood to cover everything up, just as effective as some of the shit masks out there anyway.
Have you thought about one of these? People seem to distance more effectively when you wear it for some reason, especially while holding a machete.
