We have two quality right backs with the intention of high-level competition between them. Unfortunately, this season, performance levels have dropped through fatigue and form and the competition has not been available. Danilo played very well in the Liverpool game and deserves to maintain his place with Walker providing the competition but also receiving a bit of a break.
I might be talking out of my ass, but it wouldnt surprise me if Danny ends up having almost a Zab-like career spiral.
Zab for many years was clear second choice to a fast, physical englishman who was very clumsy on the ball in Micah. Zab suddenly turned a page at the end of 11/12 and became by far the better fullback.
I know Danny wont give us as many good years as the Zabman anyway cause of age, but he just offers so much when he has been played in to form, and Ive always had this lingering feeling that he always been our best fullback.
A lot of talk abour our left side, who has been hugely neglected in the market, but we are very, very luck to have the two right-backs that we have.
He probably has the most imoressive medal collection in our squad aswell(aside from maybe David) so hopefully he will add another title to his impressive career in may
Danilo is actually the same age Zabaleta was in 2012.
Brazil ending a world cup drought by winning ugly in 1994 is what you're looking for there.Strange how the culture of defense in South America has been so strong in recent years across nations like Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. We have seen a number of good fullbacks, keepers and CBs in recent times in the PL from that region. I wonder if there is something that can be traced back 10/15 years that more emphasis was needed on defense and associations placed schemes to strengthen that area.
But yes Danilo was very solid last night considering the intensity of the game and his lack of game time.
He's just steady, and this is why many don't rate him. He's a great backup that's for sure.Has he ever had a bad game for City? A lot of people don’t rate him, but I can’t recall a bad performance.
