Danilo 2018/19 Performances

Only fair he stays in the team ahaead of Walker, who has dropped off, had some lapses of concentration and errors in his game lately. I think if Danilo gets a run of games we'll see him getting better each game.

We have two quality right backs with the intention of high-level competition between them. Unfortunately, this season, performance levels have dropped through fatigue and form and the competition has not been available. Danilo played very well in the Liverpool game and deserves to maintain his place with Walker providing the competition but also receiving a bit of a break.

Fully agree with other posters that Walker looks like he needs a rest. Also agree that Danilo needs a run in the team to get up to speed. I am going to break ranks though and suggest that Danilo had a very ordinary game against Liverpool, particularly in the first half. His misjudgement of the flight of the ball allowed Robertson to get in at the far post. He looked hesitant in possession and had an uncomfortable evening overall. He has some fine qualities as a player but looks some way below the very high standards that have happily become the norm for us.

I might be talking out of my ass, but it wouldnt surprise me if Danny ends up having almost a Zab-like career spiral.

Zab for many years was clear second choice to a fast, physical englishman who was very clumsy on the ball in Micah. Zab suddenly turned a page at the end of 11/12 and became by far the better fullback.

I know Danny wont give us as many good years as the Zabman anyway cause of age, but he just offers so much when he has been played in to form, and Ive always had this lingering feeling that he always been our best fullback.
A lot of talk abour our left side, who has been hugely neglected in the market, but we are very, very luck to have the two right-backs that we have.

He probably has the most imoressive medal collection in our squad aswell(aside from maybe David) so hopefully he will add another title to his impressive career in may

Was well up for it,and contributed very well, mind you he should be fresh really, but definitely one of the best performances he's had since he arrived

Got caught under the ball for their goal but was otherwise tremendous. Offered a lot of support up and down the right side and started the move for the winner with a great ball outside Robertson. He was good against Southampton as well. I still maintain that Walker is the better full-back and I expect Danilo to drop to the bench again soon, but knowing we have someone who’ll keep his head down and do his duty when asked is comforting.

Danilo is actually the same age Zabaleta was in 2012.

He's really shown a mature side to his game, I thought he was a bit lightweight when he first signed but gradually he's grown into his role as right/left back and I'm sure he's played the ferna role a couple of times late on in games.
He's really impressed me and I think he'll become a bit of a cult hero with us as he seems to be playing with his heart on his sleeve lately and giving his all for team.

Thats actually interesting, thought Zaba was younger actually(weird cause he at no point looked young during his stay here), but partly what I meant is that I doubt Danny will give us almost 10 years as zab did, and that was a big reason our great club became so ingrained in his dna.

Off topic, but I fucking love Zabaleta so much, every night I pray we will see him back in some capacity, we should have cloned him

Strange how the culture of defense in South America has been so strong in recent years across nations like Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. We have seen a number of good fullbacks, keepers and CBs in recent times in the PL from that region. I wonder if there is something that can be traced back 10/15 years that more emphasis was needed on defense and associations placed schemes to strengthen that area.

But yes Danilo was very solid last night considering the intensity of the game and his lack of game time.

He played very well. I must admit that I had a twitchy arse when Laporte went off though. I seem to remember him playing at left back before and having a tough time of it.

Thought he played really well again last night. Hats off to him as well, it would've been really easy for him to complain about his minutes, or even agitate for a move after last season, but he's been a complete professional, waited for his chance, and is making the most of it now.

Brazil ending a world cup drought by winning ugly in 1994 is what you're looking for there.
Argentina and Uruguay have always had great defenders, the Italian game has been a big influence in both countries.
