David Silva retires from football (pg13)

I had an ACL reconstruction at 22 through a football injury when i was 19. I'm 34 now and i still get pain in my knee when i walk long distances, i've not played football since i had the surgery because i just know i can't play as i want. That was getting treated at Salford Royal.

With the best will in the world, you won't be coming back from it at 37.

Thanks for the memories David, you are a legend.
Bad new is Ant, it gets worse mate, and you’ll likely get arthritis in there (if you haven’t already).

I am sure he is disappointed but he has his wife and two kids and can retire in the sun , if he makes a full recovery he might be tempted into another season , all guess work though

My fav all time blue

I had 5 MRI scans because they were adamant i hadn't torn my cruciate. After 2 years of mithering they finally went in with a camera and found that i had torn it but the torn section had fused into me knee joint and every time i bent my knee it was crushing my nerve endings which is what the pain was. Horrendous for years.

It's miles better now but flares up a bit in the cold or if i walk for too long (which is good because i've turned into a right lazy fucker so when the mrs wants to go for a walk i pretend my knee is sore!!)

A Villa fan at work once told me that a flick from Silva against them was one of the greatest pieces of skill he'd seen - I think he had a defender behind him, flicked the ball with his left foot and ran round to his right.

The Spain World Cup winning coach (I think) said Silva was the toughest player he knew because he got kicked so much.

Glorious player to watch - so many times he made the pass before the scoring pass.

One of my favourite players of all time. Wish him nothing but the best retirement ever. Well except should he want to become a coach then of course hope he wants to come to City ️.

Pleased to say that I have had the pleasure of seeing great players over the years including my all time favourite Colin Bell.

But David Silva was an absolute genius of a player who made a massive contribution to the club .

Hope he recovers well and enjoys his life going forward.
