Mancini has been interested in him for ages. How have you not seen it? I think he placed a bid in last year too, but I'm not certain.

But you said "we aren't being linked with him", this is how newspapers link players with clubs, through gossip and speculation until a bid is made. How often do we see the manager says "I want <player>" before a bid is made?

Here's an Italian story from some days ago saying Roma could be tempted to sell him to us to fund moves for Axel Witsel and Gregory Van Der Wiel. We can't really expect Brian Marwood to come out and say "We're after De Rossi" but we're clearly linked with him.
