Declan Rice

Does the bid for him include Kalvin?

Because that's the only way I can make sense of potentially signing him. He's not a box-to-box midfielder like Ilkay was so he'd be added to the stable alongside Rodri and Phillips. If he's coming to be Rodri's backup then it makes a hell of a lot more sense. If Kalvin is staying then I think we have far bigger needs elsewhere in the squad.

Stones started only 21 league games last season, and last season was one of his best in terms of fitness and availability. Also, he's a CB. He was fantastic in his hybrid role in the 2nd half of last season, but Rice is potentially even better at it due to his stamina and ball carrying ability.

We are likely to play 60+ games next season. Rice can start over 40 games, given injuries, fatigue, rotation, etc.
Spot on can nobody see this

Its madness isnt it, kind of takes some of the glare away from us though. Just seen on the bernardo thread a rumor that he could join barca on loan once he's signed for the Saudi side. Its bonkers if that starts happening.
Don't know how they think they'll get away with it. Silva under contract till 2025 so if Saudi want him then it better be for around £100 + million or they can fuckoff

He IS a box to box midfielder. Modern day Bryan Robson if ever I've seen one

Take it you don't watch football?

Does he have to play cdm? Gundogan has gone, silva wants to leave. Surely he's coming in to replace them?
I think he could play as an 8 but the plan would probably be to play him mainly as a double pivot with Rodri. Stones would then be on the right of a back 3. Also gives us a chance to rest Rodri when needed. I think to replace silva we need to buy two players. A winger and a central midfielder. So in theory Kovacic/Rice replace Silva/gundo but we would need to sign a winger as well.

Been banging on about signing this lad for ages, so much so that I started boring myself to tears ;). If we can get this done I really believe the doubters will be won over as soon as he starts to show what he can do in a more attacking team with a more progressive coach. Get him signed please City.

There are alternate points of view. Rice could go to Arsenal and instantly be part of the spine along with Odegaard, Saka, Martinelli, Saliba (all of which are under 24). Rice could come to Arsenal and instantly be part of the core as a place will be made for him in his preferred position. We are investing beyond Rice and keeping our players. Arteta is a young manager in the infancy of his Arsenal tenure and is likely to stay for a long time. If Rice joined Man City and signed a 5 year deal, who will be his manager in years 3-4-5? Pep is winding down at City and has likely signed his last contract. There is also a cloud that looms over Man City that could become a storm. Plus there is the London factor and home comfort.

Not every road points to Man City.
