Devolution For The Regions - Gtr Manchester

Why are they being consulted then, and being asked to contribute to the strategy, if they have no influence?

One simple question and your whole argument falls to pieces. Utterly deluded.
You said nothing about contributing to a national strategy earlier. Contribute is not a synonym of formulate.
There’s a clear risk of contradiction in allowing devolved regions, each with their own self-interest and agenda, to formulate a national strategy.
You aren’t the brightest are you.

Where did I say I was an expert in running a business? Thought you were near Stoke anyway so why are you so bothered about a clean air zone 40 miles away? Do you get as pissed off about other regulations and rules that you need to adhere to to run your business or do you save it for things that the Daily Mail tells you to be upset about.
I don't work in the place of my username, I don't read the daily mail, and I voted Labour for the first time in my life last week.

This is known as Hoshin Kanri. Business 101 stuff.

You can’t effectively drive change through an entire organisation unless the overarching goals of the executive are filtered down and reflected through all levels of the hierarchy. Every sub-unit is a contributor to the overall output, the sub-units need to know what they should prioritise and in exchange the executive needs to know what contributions are to be expected from which sub-units. This is exactly what they are doing judging by the “bring information on your local specialisms” comment. You simply can’t have a comprehensive national industrial strategy without buy-in and alignment with the regions. It’d be like trying to swim with your limbs tied up.

Good to see we finally have a government that understands that doing your own thing and hoping everybody just follows suit is not effective best practice.

You may want to read the article again, particularly the section outlining how the local leaders are being asked to formulate their own regional growth plans. As part of a major devolution of power away from central government.

Has the penny dropped yet? Sadly I think not.

Formulating a regional growth plan is not formulating a national strategy.

Formulating a regional growth plan is not formulating a national strategy.
If the strategy is being increasingly devolved, the national plan would ultimately become the collection of regional plans. As a collective, the regions would increasingly determine the national plan.

Not a difficult concept. But what a fascinating argument, this contribute/formulate thing. One of your best, I must say, and I’ve particularly enjoyed seeing you tell @Churchlawtonblue how he should be running his business (when he’s not reading the Daily Mail that is).

Can’t wait to see what pearls of wisdom you offer up tomorrow.

Has the lone Tory Mayor's interview been mentioned yet? (Sorry, bit knackered now, after getting up to go to work after about 4 sodding hours of sleep). Thought he spoke well of the meeting, and Starmer in particular. Plus he wasn't afraid to diss on the Tory shambles.
