Devolution For The Regions - Gtr Manchester

If you let them out early they are tagged and put under house arrest for the rest of their time, no way they can complain about that, unless of course they were shagging the prison guard..

Ah but this is the classic way of make sure no shit hits your fan. I remember Michael Howard when he was home secretary blaming the guy in charge of HM prisons and not accepting responsibility for overcrowding 'n rioting. I seem to recall a move to shift the interface the public had with HMG to 'agencies'. I remember getting a passport from the Passport Agency - they're back now as the Passport Office. I think we are gonna be in for as many spiffing wheezes from Sir Starmer as we had from Boris, Liz 'n Rishi! The latest to appear is the suggestion that the overcrowding in prisons is gonna be solved by letting some jailbirds out!
Hit the nail on the head there. It’s classic arse covering.

The idea of a making a decision based on the available information, making that decision in the national rather than regional interest and sticking with it - taking responsibility for its outcome - seems a foreign concept now.

Do you not think those who live and work daily in the community better understand the needs of said community and are better placed than that of a remote governement making decisions on their behalf?

He’s a cap doffer who is more than happy to do as he’s told by central government as long as it’s an Eton educated Tory making the decision because clearly they know best.

That is true but Burnham defended the scheme several times, it was also clear in his interviews that he was in charge of its geographical extent, which could have been much smaller if needed and still met the clean air obligations and he also quite obviously didn't understand the impact it would have on many small businesses. At times he looks woefully out of his depth.
I wonder how long before Burnham jumps back on the Labour Party bandwagon now they have been elected?

I simply don’t agree that only local politicians can fully understand what matters to people in their own region, particularly when it comes to an issue such as an industrial strategy. A failure on a national level would hinder all regions, and all regions want to see higher growth and living standards, so there’s no conflict here in my opinion.

Clean Air Zones is a Tory Policy that should have been implemented across 5 major conurbations by 2020 .

Burnham , Khan etc are simply doing what they have been told...... shame the Conservatives had to weaponise their own legislation.

Burnham supports the CAP rather than charging, it just needs the £100m investment. Exactly the sort of thing I would expect devolution to allow him to do without having to wait a year or more for the funding.

Thanks but I’ll leave the bullshit to you. You seem to be a specialist in it.
You have never run a business, but you think your an expert in it? Really?

The key word that completely passed you by was 'recession'. Our sector has been in recession for over a year and still is. In laymans terms to the likes of you, this means our company and thousands of others in our sector competing for less work at often lower rates. This is on the back of a terrible 18mths due to covid. And us paying back covid loans. Dealing with huge wage demands and a lack of skilled people.

Your statement of hey its simple, just pass the cost on to your customers showed me how little you actually understand?

I heard Burnham going on about the grants and scrapage schemes at the time. Great, 10 or 15% towards the cost of a new van. That still leaves the other 90% to find! where he does the clown think that comes from? Off trees.

This is a man who clearly doesn't understand or have to account for his actions. Unfortunately there are plenty of those types in governments past and more than likely the present one also.

I knew you or one of the other Labour fan boys would criticise my remarks. I sincerely hope the new government do a great job, I believe they will improve on the last lot. But be under no illusion, they will make mistakes, the implementaion of the huge low immision zone was dedinitely one of them. The new government won't please everyone, they don't have the magic answer to everything, and when they do make mistakes they will be criticised. You and others need to get used to it.

Fair enough, but I disagree
