I'm gonna put my head on the block and suggest there wasn't too much wrong with the way we went about the game yesterday - yes a few players had an off day - but we got round the bus and scored what should've been the winner.

It was three defensive lapses that cost us, not the tactics, the formation or their manager being a fking genius (as a few on here would have us believe). MP saw it all coming, would expect them to use pace against a makeshift back two. FFS they scored 3 goals from 1,2 and 3 yards out.

It happens. We'll learn. Start again next game round.
Agreed.

FFS. We weren't out thought, we weren't hit on the counter, we didnt lose the tactical battle nor did they let us get in front to lull us into a false sense of security.

Don't give Cardiff any more credit than they deserve - it was a cup final for them and they lumped the ball into the mixer at set pieces and granted we were piss poor at defending them. End of story.

There's always a freak result on the opening weekend. This year it was us, get over it.... and move on.

fair point, 3-4 years ago, Burnley beat utd 1-0 at turf moor. weird results happen, it's how you react.

I think we can go on about tactics, formations, Cardiff and anything anyone wants to to try and explain a shock result, but the facts are that if we give three goals away in the space of 20 minutes of the second half of an away game to any team we'll lose. Yesterday we played very poorly - not just Lescott, not just Garcia, but every one of them as a team. We know how good those players are, but we saw them lose to a team of players, none of whom would make our second string, let alone our first. We had a day like this against Southampton last season. We have to hope it's out of the system now, because we can't afford another performance like that.

-- Mon Aug 26, 2013 3:51 pm --

I think we can go on about tactics, formations, Cardiff and anything anyone wants to to try and explain a shock result, but the facts are that if we give three goals away in the space of 20 minutes of the second half of an away game to any team we'll lose. Glad everyone is calming down and realizing the truth the day after.
