It's an odd one though; before 2008 the future of our club was fairly mediocre and we were far more tolerant of city's failure's (we weren't short of them)

I think there's more to it than that on why there is such an apathy towards the national team nowadays

You are probably right. The FA in a way represent the establishment. They are pompous, bloated, all out for themselves and couldn't give a shit about the fans except to fleece as much money out of them as possible. If anything they hold the fans in utter contempt and never really defend them ,even when a bunch of mad Russians were attacking them all over the place it was party England fan's fault. They pick safe shit managers who play the players of the world's most popular clubs to increase revenue no matter what kind form they are in. The fans have seen through it now and have no interest, well aside from the brainwashed ones who follow them everywhere but you get that all over. England doesn't represent US it represents some kind of global money making machine at all costs. Fuck them!

Always want England to win every game but stopped watching them years ago, I'm with the OP, 99.99% City, England have flattered to deceive too many times since 96 for me so my disinterest grows with every tournament..!
 
I really couldn't give a flying fook about the national team, never have and never will.
 
I love my football and I love England but whilst Southgate is in charge I shall not be watching a single minute. I can't stand the bloke and it's got nothing to do with him missing a pen at euro 96 either. I hated him as a footballer and I hate him as a manager and especially as a manager of England. I pray he doesn't win these next four games.
 
Now that Rooney has been told he will play on for ever and ever, I have less and less faith in the England management. Has any player ever received such special treatment despite being crap now? He will doubtless score a penalty on Saturday and maybe a tap-in when a defender miskicks, and be assured of his place till God knows when.
