Amen.

There has always been a minority of 'supporters' who got their kicks from slagging off the team or individual players. I can still recall being puzzled 60 years ago when my father took me to City games (with a big box to stand on): I couldn't understand why such people bothered to go to games. Later I realised in many cases it was just a way of letting off steam after a very hard week's work.

Unfortunately it has got worse. Some of the criticisms you allude to have been diabolical and are not "typical City fan" (of old, at least). I suspect that the problem has got much worse because of the internet, where the best way to attract attention in a fans forum is to outdo others in "smart arsiness" and to use as many swear words as possible.
What's wrong with fairly criticising a player?

I've only criticised Dzeko when he's played poorly and have only alluded to his awful first touch outside of a match this once. (yet have been labelled a 'hater')

Does that make me spoiled and snidey?

There is nothing wrong with "fair criticism" (by definition). But that implies necessarily that criticisms can be "unfair" and that it is not the case that "anything goes".

For what it is worth, I did not have you in mind. In fact, the one thing that I can remember about your posts re Dzeko has been your pointing out that Aguero + Dzeko has been an effective partnership.

The sorts of things I have in mind, quoting from the last few pages, are: "fucking dismal"; "far more dog shit performances than good ones last year"; "his sheer ineptitude of being able to keep hold of the fcuking thing and retain possession"; "watching both for 5 minutes shows that one (Rooney) is leagues ahead of the other (Dzeko)"; "he couldn't even trap a bag of cement". These are not fair criticisms of a player who, leaving penalties aside, had the same minutes per goal or assist as van Persie last season and is way ahead of him taking their careers. These are ignorant criticisms of a player who is 8th in the Castrol Edge Ranking of every player in Europe's top five leagues. This ranking is based "purely on objective data on the positive or negative impact on his team's likely performance of every touch by a player” (my emphasis).

60 years ago, my father took me to City one week and United the next (It was quite common in those days). I became a City supporter partly because of Bert Trautmann. But another major reason was that there has always been something about City supporters that differentiated them from the arrogance / superiority of many United supporters. It bothers me that too many City supporters are starting to display that same sort of arrogance.

Castrol ranking system! Please... and just because you don' t agree with other people's opinion on a player does not make you a bigger blue as you are clearly implying it.

-- Wed Jul 25, 2012 11:38 am --

If we let Dzeko go to Arsenal that is just a complete masterstroke from Wenger.

Will score bag loads of goals when your up top with service from Podolski and Arteta etc.

He either goes abroad or preferably no where.

And RVP will have a drought which last the whole season! Jeez talk about putting bad spin on it eh?

I'm not slagging him off. I'm just saying that he can be frustrating. Like an earlier poster pointed out he can sometimes pull off outrageous bits of skill to control a ball. But there are so many occasions where he seems lazy in getting the ball under control and it just pings off him. I love Mario, but it's one aspect of his game (specifically his game - not his off field antics) which I find to be quite frustrating.

I'm not being an idiot. It's just an observation.
Most fans frustration with Mario is down to him not making the most of his ability, but you're saying he doesn't have the basic skills

No, I'm not. I never said he doesn't have the basic skills once. He's supremely talented. I said he can be lazy in using his skills and that it happens fairly frequently; pretty much exactly what you have said above.

Sums up my sentiments as well.

La Stampa, which says we have rejected a bid for Dzeko, also says Juve may return with a loan offer later in the market knowing full well we will be pressured to offload a striker to make way for van Persie (or alternative). It seems like most of our business is being done with these scummy Serie A clubs who refuse to buy at market value and are always maneuvering for loans and discounts.

There is market value and there is City value, lately also PSG value...

So, no one panicked when he didn't play during the games in Austria .Suddenly he is not going to far east and every one is going nuts.
Any concerned individual should either watch porn or do some kinda drugs to calm your nerves down.

As one of his biggest fans I must be honest - him not going to Asia DOES worry me, as it can mean only two things none of which are thrilling prospect:

1) He is being sold and currently negotiating with clubs

2) He is truly out of form/shape with a nagging injury - which is also not that great considering that beggining of the season is approaching and he will not be preparing with the team.

Either way not good news for him I'm affraid.

If Dzeko leaves he'll go on to have a good career, and I'll appreciate all the good work he's done for us while here but I won't be too disappointed or surprised to be honest. Moreover I'll wish him well as I can't recall him being anything other than a total professional and he scored in the most important city game of my lifetime.

He's not as bad as people say, he's actually really good, but if we had to get rid of one of our strikers I'd choose him. Reckon we'd get a good price for him too.
