In still not convinced with Dzeko, seen to many lacklustre displays by him in the past but if he carries on putting this effort in then he will change everyone's mind including mine. There were so many outstanding performers last night and for Edin to be given the MOM award he's done fantastic considering he didn't score.

He's obviously a guy who needs to feel loved, especially by the management. Last season this didn't happen and, as you rightly say, many of his displays were lacklustre (or lackluster, depending on how you want to spell the word).

If you compare his first touches last night (and in pre-season) to his often clumsy control during most of last year, he looks a different player. Instead of forking out silly money to bring in other big-name strikers, we've already got one.

All he needs to do now is convert some of the chances.

Welcome back, Edin.

For big Ed it really was all about confidence. He is smiling again and clearly feeling the love of the Boss.

Thank the gods that we didn't sell him in the off season. You can tell he is going to have a super season. I was also amazed by Sergio and how well he played considering it was his first game.

When Jovetic is fit it's going to be so hard to choose which ones to play.

The fact that he can play like he did at the start of 2011-12 and last night shows how much of a prick he can be when he puts in performances like Everton and Spurs away last season. It's inexcusable that a professional can be so unprofessional. Loads of people don't like their boss but you still have to act in a professional manner otherwise you will fail on your KPIs and eventually get the sack.

However, i hope that Edin can learn from it and realise that it is not acceptable to purposely underperform and that he can put it firmly behind him and never act like that ever again, ever!

Good luck to you Edin i'm hoping you can stick to your guns here and not let your standards drop ever again. "OHWOAHWOAHWOAH...EDIN DZEKO!"

I thought he played really well last night, if that's the level of performance he's going to give us this season he'll score a lot, and start more often than not. The new formation, and style, clearly suited him. The one thing I found a little annoying was the things we, legitimately, stated were absent from hhis game last season were all there to be seen tonight. His touch was much better, his workrate was great, his passing was pretty good too. It just emphasised how little actual efort he was putting in at times last season.

He was outstanding last night, and if it wasn't for a couple of world class saves from Krul his performance would have been perfect.
I can see him banging in 20/25 this year in the Prem.

Changed player under Pelligirini. I know it's only been one game, plus friendlies, but i've seen enough to say he'll score 15 in the league this year as well as offer a focal point for the attack.

He was great. Fair play to him. Just once or twice he could maybe have passed instead of shot and he should have buried that header....but his all round game was top notch.

Lets hope it continues, and if it does he will need a contract extension sorting.

I also thought Nasri looked good too when he came on.

it was the same formation as last year. difference is that we stretch the game now, and we play with more tempo which suits edin dzeko.
