England v Croatia | Euro 2020 Group Stage

When he leaves England after winning nothing he be lucky to get the managers job at a championship club. Southgate couldn`t stir a cup of team never mind the emotions of a squad of footballers.
I'm not saying you're wrong but the normal way of things is for England fans to always blame the managers, surely every manager in England's history ( bar Ramsey) can't have been shit ?
Maybe, just maybe, the players haven't been quite as good as they've been made out to be ?

I really do not get the opprobrium shown towards Southgate.

He is a bright intelligent fella, he speaks well, writes well, he has an air of quiet self confidence. He is passionate and his record is good. He also makes brave decisions such as starting Raheem when many thought he should not. Giving players belief is a huge part of the job and he obviously believes in Raheem and to such an extent when Kane came off Raheem took the armband. Being England manager at football and Captain of the England cricket team are two of the most high powered roles in sport. He deals with expectations well, and he has to be an ambassador for the country as well as a manager and he looks very comfortable doing that.

Tactically he is sound, the players have a look of togetherness, there has been none of the histrionics and silliness associated with other England teams in the past, that says to me he commands the respect of the players and they look a happy bunch. That is half the battle for an England manager who in the past has had club cliques to deal with.

He will improve as well and when his time as England manager comes to an end, I am sure their will be big clubs who will look at him,
Thank you for your post. You make your points well, but to me Gareth is little more than an FA man. His treatment of Jack Grealish yesterday was so bad. To bring on Bellingham after initially sending Grealish to warm up told us everything about Gareth. Grealish has been a star in his few England appearances. So much for Gareth's "loyalty" towards those who haven't let him down. He seems more interested in being the champion of youth rather than being a manager of the full national side. : (

I am not usually that arsed about international football but i really want England to win this tournament to silence the boo boys who think that all of a sudden Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane and co are Marxists for taking the knee.

It is a really big two fingers up to these idiotic cunts who boo, they claim to be patriots but there is nothing patriotic about booing your own countries representatives. I reckon these so called fans were sick as fuck when Raz scored and now ironically these fucking idiots have reignited this old leftys love of the England team. I love my country and want them to do well and we made a good start today. The Leeds kid in midfield reminded me of Fernandinho and that is high praise, he was superb. Raz was excellent and a real threat, I do worry a little that our Phil is getting overhyped, he is still a kid and hope he keeps grounded.

Well done Gareth Southgate, he got it spot on today tactically, his substitutions were well timed and we played with a smile and a certain amount of freedom.

There is more to come from this team, they could well go all the way with a bit of luck and with 4 of our lads starting what's not to like

I'd agree with that the players have been overhyped in the past but this is probably the best squad I can remember, apart from the GK situation.

I abandoned it 4 minutes into the second half. Looked as if it was going to be more of the same walking pace mogadon sandwich. Caught a great episode of Nothing to Declare. Lebanese woman got caught with loads of shit, her "brother" put in her case. Woke me right up. I can tell you.
Yeah, livened up on 5th minute..

Looking forward to Scotland game later but will not be having a tipple with you as school run awaits at 3.30.

I think you have fantastic midfield and attacking players but awful keepers and an average defence.
I still think you've got a great chance but that last 16 game against one of the big boys from group F will be very tough

I agree on the GK but I don't think a back 4 of stones/slabhead/walker/trippier or chilwell is too shabby.
