England wasting one of the most talented squads ever assembled on Southgate

No he doesn't! He just doesn't play as badly as he does at club level. Was at fault for Benzema's winner at the WC, let him get in front of him. England will not win anything with him at the back.

Benzema didn't play at the world cup so that's some doing.

Daft measurement of success when two trophies are available across four years.

I kind of agree with this point, however in the three tournaments he/the team have hit the big stage,we've shit the bed.

The best losing performance was against the French last year.

We've had kind draws, and the time to step up is always met by a defeat.

Limited manager ultimately chooses limited side(despite better options)with limited tactics,no-one should be surprised by the outcome.

Is it his fault that penalty takers for their clubs consistently cock up ?

As he had an infamous miss of his own, it's inconceivable that he hasn't had them practice rigourously and used sports psychologists.

Sure, but would all of those "half decent" managers have been in the final in the first place?

Every England tournament prior to Southgate I can remember garbage performances, riddled with internal politics, centred on massive egos.

Everybody writes off his success in creating a good atmosphere that the players want to be in, instead of the usual horrible meat grinder where they're all stressed that they're gonna be the next national whipping boy. And yet, again, it's produced better results than Capello, Eriksson, Mclaren, who were all "half decent managers".

Ha mclaren !
Whataboutery ain't cutting it though.
Southgate has won fuck all as a manager.
Capello,Sven and even mclaren won stuff as managers.

Credit to Southgate for fostering a unified team.
He certainly did a good job of bonding the side better.
If he'd quit after the Euros he'd be given a bit more leeway.

They had some Norwegian sports psychologist some tine ago - can't remember the year/manager - but it was felt that the England team had an inbuilt fear of losing, despite having some of the best players in world football. Whatever the outcome of that exercise any effect didn't last long, and Southgate continues to bumble along spewing out his own brand of FA-speak!

Are they consistently losing to worse teams?

Or did they lose to finalists for two world cups in a row?

I'd suggest that his negative management has had an influence in ending up letting penalties decide.

2018 was a pleasant surprise, even if it ended in disappointment.

Euro 2020 could, and in the end, should been better given the advantages we had.
2022 w.c our k.o against the 1st strong side we faced, was waiting to happen throughought our campaign imo.

They seem to take the first half as a practice and once the 'heavy weather' performance is completed they normally get the better of worse sides. I normally switch channels and never bothr with the second half. And we only have to see a slaughterhouse of some hapless semi-pro team than the RDAHMeedya are nailing on the next trophy.

I would agree that hes fostered a good team spirit for sure.
Always shouts out what utter pricks the likes of gerrard, fowler, carragher, scholes, neville etc etc were for being so petty and snide that that couldnt put their petty club squabbles aside for the good of the national team. Always winds me up that .

So yes, credit to southgate, hes a nice guy. But thats it.

What sort of job do you honestly think hed get in the prem? Meaning, what sort of level would he succeed at ?

Oh, here we go again. Is this another Golden Generation??

Embarrassing thread for self entitled anti England fans that only really care about there own teams players being picked and don’t want England to succeed.

Southgate has one of the highest win percentages, took us to final of the Euros only losing on penalties and to a World Cup semi final - he has achieved far more than pretty much every manager since Alf Ramsey.

Going into the tournaments he has picked one of the youngest squads and starting line ups in the world, has managed to keep the unity and team spirit within the camp and has cemented himself as Englands manager after our performances at tournaments.

The reality is no England manager will ever please , it’s a massive ask to win a major tournament but even if we did , whoever is the manager will still get criticised, that’s the reality of modern day internet fans - all crying, whinging and moaning constantly mainly because they have a gripe against certain players being picked.

Southgate:
Organisation, team spirit, lack of cliques: Excellent. 9/10.
Team Creativity: Poor. Midfield selection too conservative. 5/10.
Results: Tendency not to beat the best, but will see off the rest. 6/10.

There was some lovely football played last night. Bellingham lifts the whole team with his desire to win. He gets the fans going, asks the players to step up and makes sure he gets on the ball as much as possible. We need to look to establish our defence over the next few games. Guehi was good when he came on and Dunk is a very good option as well. We have a lot of attacking options, but there's potentially something very exciting there with a Foden/Bellingham combination. Foden played better than usual in an England shirt last night, but Saka will come back in on that right side, so it's whether you slot him in the middle or play him on the right. Good issues to have though.

Gordon and Gibbs-White will continue to progress and then you have a number of good players in the current U21 side who are playing regularly for their club sides - Madueke, Philogene, Palmer, Lewis, Elliot. The future is bright.

Whether you like Southgate or not, he's got one tournament left before he's likely to call it quits. Get the right replacement in and we could have a very special team going into the next World Cup, which will mark the end for a few of the current crop.

To be fair to Gareth he would be a superb upgrade on Erik at the swamp, hopefully a long time off in the future, Erik must be given more time.

Didn't take long for Henry Winter to start that shite after qualify from another piss easy group.

They will fail when they play anyone decent as the coach isn't intelligent enough tactically to defeat them.
