Etihad Atmosphere - 2022/23

A massive display pre kick off was planned for tonight. Unfortunately the weather, mainly the wind put paid to it. Can’t say anymore as it will happen this season. And the other 1894 lads will kill me. :-)

The club on 2 occasions stopped it getting going pre match, first when they showed the "get behind the lads" on the screen the crowd started singing only to be drowned out by a just eat advert booming out , then second and much worse about 5 mins before kickoff the ground was silent as there was no light show ect so the crowd actually started singing " we are city , super city" then moved on to " best team in the land" things were actually starting to build then the club drown everyone out with the bloody screens and PA, could have been special if they let the crowd actually be heard.

This. THIS!
It's as if the people who are in charge of making these kinds of decisions know nothing, but literally nothing, about what it is to be a football supporter.
The p.a. at the Etihad is deafening, and it is the worst single thing about the matchday experience, for me. The emotion comes from the crowd. From us. They are constantly stopping the momentum of emotion from us by damn fool announcements that blast your ear off, and that literally nobody gives a toss about.

I’m sure you are right mate but this doesn’t justify the sponsored silence in the first 20 minutes. I assume a lot of our fans in the South Stand were drenched and needed to get into the game. The rest of the ground was geared up
for singing but many fans need to be promoted by the singing sections:

Give me our atmosphere last night over a German, capo/drum led atmosphere all day.

It was special at times, nervous at others. Reflected the game beautifully.

It wasn’t background noise!

(This is coming from someone who’s been to half a dozen games in Germany).

Ferdinand said the atmosphere for a Champions league game at City was the best he'd heard, all very complimentary about the atmosphere...
I know he gets stick on here but I've always thought Ferdinand has been mostly, mostly, fair with his City analyses. He took over the anchor role last night when Johnboy came out for interview as jakesnake was just stood gawping like a crushed bayern fan, and that led to some actual football talk!

Yeah, he's alright as a pundit. I don't have an issue with him (or Gary Nevile). We all know they're big rags, but I think they're impartial in their punditry other than the odd bits of 'banter' (which really shouldn't upset any fully grown adults).

Hated both him and Neville with a passion when they played, though.

I find the choreographed bullshit from German fans embarrassing , bit like the audiences that follow the shit tv that Simon Cowell serves up .

right decision to pull the huge banners for the displays in east stand and lower SS. The wind was a lot worse than what it looked to be, held a telelscopic flag up and it nearly flew away.

Thought the atmosphere was brilliant, two games and we have outdone the german fans ultra style. When we get together and sing like we did last night it is far better than ultra style. Lets keep it up.

I find bayern have the most non game reactive atmosphere, last night bayern attacked and almost scored, there was hardly a reaction from fans as they where halfway through a song !

Football is for the people though, who gives a flying fuck what happens on the pitch.

I thought it was very good last night, some silences reflecting the nerves as others have said but the crowd drove the team on.

It was like we all smelt blood in the 2nd half and wanted us to kill it off there and then.

Need every game to be like that from now until the end of the season.

I think he is fairer than Neville, actually. Neville is “fake fair”, if that makes sense.
I never forget that Neville is a Mancunian. Rio Ferdinand is completely a Londoner. There isn't quite the same visceral allegiance to his former club.
I don't dislike Rio. Even his camel gob is quite amusing.

It's been said, and I think it's true, that there's something quite robotic about it. Support ebbs and flow naturally with what's going on in the game. Theirs actually seems to go in a bubble.

One of their routines was sufficiently odd it got a spontaneous 'what the fucking hell was that' from ss1. Quite funny.

As for the two fellas 'conducting' them, who goes to a football match and spends the entire time with their back to the pitch. Weirdos.
