Etihad Atmosphere - 2022/23

Correct. We did out sing the Leeds fans in SSL1 by a mile. The Leeds fans were quiet in SSL1 for large parts of the game until they scored.

My mate, who is a Leeds fan, and a 'football fan', loves watching City play, was stood next to me in 115. He was impressed with City's support and the different chants.

After the match I met a couple of mates in town. 2 of their mates, both from Glasgow, 1 a Celtic fan, 1 a Rangers fan, went to the match and also said our support was good. The Celtic fan did say that most of the noise came from the fans in one end of the ground, and more noise needed to come from the fans in the other parts of the ground.
I am always interested to read posts like this, those that discuss others fans opinions of our team and support when they have actually attended a game.

was flat in the second half but that didn't help with the team coasting.

Leeds fans are shocking but were noisy for a good 20 mins in the 2nd think it was any different from the above (except it was slightly longer than 20 mins), was honestly looking at them and thinking is this really what you give it the big one to anyone who’ll listen about being the best fans in the country?
Really surprised to hear people with different takes to this. I was looking at Leeds fans for the first hour thinking is that it? Call yourselves the best away fans in the land and you’re that quiet? Then they went mental after an hour of the match to be fair to them :D

Can anyone confirm.

Did City’s away support ousting Leeds home support for most of the game at Elland Road this season?

Remember, Leeds home support has a very good reputation, and is apparently one of the loudest in the PL.

The new North Stand has to be the focus of the main singing section, as it is now we have three groups of singers, ss1, ss3 and the Kippax Corner, I'm sure at one time yesterday all 3 sections were singing different songs, we need one mass singing ONE song...
Indeed, that happens numerous times in every game. Then add in the away fans as well, and it’s a right raucous end of the ground! But elsewhere in the stadium, you often can’t pin yourself to any one of the chants when you’re not in the midst of an area singing because you can’t make them out.

It just sounds like, ‘Follow follow follow, woah we’re the boys in Blue, everyday we’re gonna say, we’ve got the best football team in the world, woah coming after you, we love you Leeds Leeds Leeds, 1 2 3 4, everywhere we’re gonna be there, we’ve got rodriandgundo…edersonandake…philandberanrdo, we love you Leeds Leeds Leeds, walkerandakanji…kevindebruynejohnstones…rubendiasjohnnystones, MARCHING ON TOGETHER…BLUE MOON’

And then someone from one section will say, ‘why don’t the rest of the ground join in?’

I thought that SS1 were at their best and most consistent yesterday. I could hear everything clearly from ESL1 104 and they kept it up for most of the first half. Just a shame we can't get anyone else interested in joining in.

All changed 2nd half with the performance and Leeds fans finally getting involved.

I don’t think having 3 different sections singing 3 different songs is a bad thing. Obviously, it would be better if all 3 sections were singing the same song. At least songs and noise is coming from 3 sections of the ground.

When Leeds fans started chanting “where were you when you were shit” (oh the irony from Leeds fans), everyone joined in and sang “beating you when you we were shit”.

Yesterday was worse than ever for this. And as usual the people in the middle of it seem oblivious. There must have been 20 moments in the first half where the ground was waiting for a song to start and one of the vocal areas would start murmuring and clapping “woaawawaaw we’re the boys in blue woooaawaww…” and it killed the moment because 90% of the crowd don’t know the words.

After a few away games where people hear it on the telly crystal clear it might start to catch on, Like that Follow Follow one is starting to do to be fair. But at the moment that song on its own has largely been responsible for the muting of the atmosphere over the last two games.

It’s true of almost all “new” stadia.

They have one large end as well so possibly a word of caution that the new end might not be the answer to all of our problems as is widely perceived.

Think it will depend on who moves, stays where they are, and the demographics of the new 9000 fans filing the additional capacity.

We may end up with both ends with singers, the new home stand, SSL1, 111, 110, 109 and SSL3.

It's not corporate at the front. Corporate is at the back if I remember correctly. It's down as premium seating, so something akin to Joe's/93:20 I would imagine. The fans in Joe's/93:20 are just 'normal' fans and equally as loyal and committed Blues as elsewhere. I'm sure any that would relocate to that section would be also equally as committed to helping create the atmosphere.
If it’s corporate at the back, that suggests we’re not having any standing areas in the new tier which if true means they’ve already fucked it as an atmosphere area.

I think the corporate suites/hotel rooms/sky bar at the back are on a platform above the rest of the stand so should be able to sit and still see if everyone in front/below them are stood. The hospitality at the front is a different matter though, will they be sat with those behind stood or will they be stood too?

I don’t think it’s a sweeping statement. If you attend both premier league and champions league games you’ll see a difference. I see way more people staying until the end in champions league games
Definately. Most stay to the end of CL games. A lot of our home support in the league is complacent and have bad habits.

Hopefully that’s correct with regards to the back and that there isn’t hospitality at the front. If this is to work then there has to be a standing area within the upper tier.
