Worsley do you think there could ever be a roof without any cable net when the whole ground is finished? Or even a closing roof so we could have multi events all year round.

I don’t understand the roof structure! The bloke who did it all is the cleverest bloke I have ever met in my life. He was mad into swinging as well - a real character. I will ask him!!

Cheers worsley, I get the gist of the current cablenet but once each stand is finished I can’t see why the whole roof couldn’t be removed and huge closing roof structure be installed, a 60,000 plus all year event arena would boost our income to some degree.

It’s amazing what Architects and Engineers can do. You only have to look at all the skyscrapers (by UK standards) going up in Manchester City centre. ;-)

The current roof design is very clever it’s very light and to remove it would mean a new roof on all stands, the logistics and time scale would be considerable The new roof you suggest would have to have new supporting structure which would be a big project. IMHO The development will be the new north stand similar to south stand incorporating City Square and store / museum then a new high-tech facade Anything else would be better to build new
 
The architects got the exterior so wrong. I used to lol out of my cabin on a grim winters day and the greyness was so stark. City have added a bit of colour but what where they thinking?

They’d never have anything on the pitch during the season so it would be pointless.

If we had a new stadium where the pitch could slide out like at Spurs then it would be a great idea though.

The reason it’s hard for them to do the corners is because the cable net comes in through there so they’ve put up a temporary roof structure in those areas until probably 10 years from now when they build the sides. This is when they’ll be able to get rid of the old cable net as each stand will then have its own independent roof supports.

Hopefully a lot of the current corner work will be covered up by screens when the North Stand is under construction as I’d imagine they’ll move the ones at that end to the South Stand.

The Etihad is what it is.

Bar the newest stadiums, Arsenal, West Ham, and Spurs, the Etihad is currently better than all the other stadiums in the PL.

It absolutely batters Old Trafford and Anfield in every aspect.

Neither the Glazers or FSG have any intention of building new stadiums. They haven’t got a spare billion pounds floating about.

Increase the Etihad to 60,000(+), create a proper single or double tier home end, revamp City Square and the souvenir store, and we’re there. The exterior of the stadium is OK, but could look better.

Once that’s done, ADUG, City, and MCC should really be starting to develop the land around the stadium. It’s over a decade since Manchester won the Super Casino bid. The Collar Site and most of the Etihad Campus still remains nothing more than wasteland and temporary car parks to date.

I don't know the but you are referring to but I am sure you are right. You reminded me of walking around Wembley at the Cup Final. The stadium bowl inside is wonderful and blows me away every time, but outside it is literally a building site, and the decor, adorning the stadia walls is way below what we have. Sure in places Etihad could be better.

People for get that there are some stadiums where if you go to the back of the stand, if you stand up, you can not even see the goal at the far end, and you have to stand and bend over for 90 minutes to see the game otherwise you don't see anything. Those stands should be closed down, or the seats sectioned off because they are Health and Safety Risks. The Premier League licensing authority should then force that club to maintain the away fans 3,000 allocation by eating into the home fans allocation. The ground I am thinking about is Anfield.

Liverpool have plans to redevelop and expand that stand. That would include the away section. That’s the next and final phase of the Anfield expansion. That would bring the Anfield capacity up to 60,000 or just over.

I think the club will aim to eclipse the capacity at Old Trafford. It isn't their mindset to be second best. We need to be bigger than United and the premier football club both on and off the field. Manchester is growing in population and economy and it attracts a whole new scope of people. United still have that historic attraction but it will not take much longer for people to be drawn our way instead. Certainly to businesses and hospitality.

Internally the changes do not have to be mind blowing. I imagine the plans for expansion are similar to those drawn up way back when. It is externally that improvements can be made. There is sufficient room to create something quite spectacular. From external designs that make the stadium incredible, to further facilities that enable people to stay in the area post-match and pre-match for longer to try and address current transport issues.

Whilst transport can be improved, you are able to walk into town in 20-30mins if you get a gallop on. I had to do it to get last trains to Sheffield when I was at Uni and managed it without leaving early. That's more than an 800m walk which is deemed sustainable in planning terms, but it isn't too bad. It is part and parcel of football to have issues getting to and from games but it would certainly help draw additional support if transport improvements were made. There is scope to improve things significantly without mind blowing investment.

You are dead right. The other day I was watching this video made by Wolves fans on the final day of the season, and it shows how shocking the view is at the back of the stand there (video is fun to watch from a City perspective if you haven't seen it BTW).

Sorry mods if this is straying off topic, but it's easy to forget how lucky we are sometimes
