The proposal 20 years ago for a cricket ground at Eastlands, and the rival bid from Wigan, to replace Old Trafford didn't involve putting a roof on the venue. That's clear from the above mockup by Sheppard Robson.

As far as I know, the current comments from the ECB are the first time anyone from a body with influence in the game in this country has spoken about the possibility of a fully covered venue. I do agree, though, that they should have been thinking about it before now, but the absence of plans no doubt came down to a lack of money.
 
I haven’t followed this thread, but it occurs to me there is huge potential to develop the collar in a similar manner to the O2 Arena (millennium dome) in London, with multiplex cinemas, escape rooms, various food franchises, go kart tracks, trampolines and axe throwing venues etc. get it done before the Rags stadium gets planning permission.
 
Lots of simili's between the bridge pub and the mitchell in how a building company can leave it idle for long periods...whilst doing it up but not really going full leather at it. .its almost like someones getting grant weighed-in awaiting for compo knowing theyll be dropped.

Always thought this about the Mitchell Arms, surly it’s in scope to be demolished with the new Holt Town Masterplan.

I'm looking forward to the Holt Town lido. Seems a strange location for it, but it's something Greater Manchester is currently lacking, with the nearest public ones being in Nantwich and Hathersage.

Where have you been the last 15 years? I live on the south coast but I have read so much about City’s owners improving the area, the club supporting local communities, children with special needs and education. Everything I have read suggests the whole area will be free access all areas, apart from hotel and the stadium. Are you under the influence?

The hotel will also have access to none residents.
