European Super League | ECJ rule that UEFA and FIFA acted unlawfully in blocking Super League (p 29)

Just to play devil’s advocate, but if this did go ahead, wouldn‘t fixtures like City v Milan or City v Bayern be better than watching us play the likes of Luton and Fulham?
City Vs Bayern are made better by them not being every season.
Also it won't be better if they aren't at the Ethiad.
I don't mind playing smaller teams, we don't have the right to only play the top teams.
It's not like smaller teams can't beat us and that's what makes football exciting, it's why the fa cup is so great

Doesn’t replace domestic leagues and is an open competition that can be qualified for via sporting merit. Free to watch. Owned by the clubs and not corrupted by UEFA or FIFA.

Why are people so against this again?

I am confused is this instead of the champions league etc ? Or domestic football ? I’ve started to lose the love with football with the ridiculous costs attached and the fact going to city is now just a tourist haven.

bro this is similar to basketball european tournaments, they still play national leagues

So this revised ESL, with it's 'Star League, Gold League and Blue League', is basically an assault on UEFA's brand format by a new rival sporting body who wants to make money from the top sporting clubs.

I only care about two things, where do we feature and how will it benefit City? I have no feelings of loyalty to UEFA but at the same time i'm not prepared to see City or the fans being fleeced to support their pockets.

UEFA treat fans with total contempt. Just look at the utter shitshow the two finals were in Paris and Istanbul. As a result no tears will be shed if they're fucked off, although I doubt the alternative will be more fan friendly either.

My biggest opposition to the super league last time was that it was a closed shop. If it's not a closed shop, it's just an expanded version of the champions league without the clubs from smaller nations that get in and uefa cut out.

A22 have just announced each club involved in the revised Super League will play a guaranteed minimum of FOURTEEN games!

That's a minimum of 54 games per season if a club doesn't progress past the Super League - league stage, & gets knocked out of the Carabao & FA Cups in the first rounds.

This doesn't include Internationals, Olympics, Community Shield, European Super Cup, Euro's, Intercontinental Cup, the World Cup, the revised Club World Cup with another two matches to reach the finals.

This greed will end up seriously harming players & diluting the quality of matches.

Reading some of the posts on here , this morning, are some fans just looking for an excuse to turn their backs on football. Having watched City through thin and thinner while I have breath in my body I would never desert my club. The ruling this morning may change football but given the greed and corruption in the governing bodies change may be good thing I don't know.

Why are people so against this again?

free to watch while its on their interest to attract premier league and other clubs to enter. then even pro/rel would go out of the window

Some people have an affinity for the 'traditional' UEFA European Competitions format, I guess.

I would have had more empathy for UEFA... if they hadn't try to kick us out of their competitions on false allegations of cheating. If we manage to win the Champions League again this season, back-to-back, emotionally i'll be apathetic towards the UCL; we stay in or join this ESL. PL is a different matter.

Because people are always resistant to change

That's the bit that everyone is so against. Having a competition where the '20' original members are guaranteed entry regardless of performance and then maybe 10 spots made up from around the world will just alienate the whole thing again. It has to be a replacement to the CL (Midweek competition) and done on merit, not a closed shop for the usual suspect which will just kill domestic competition. I suspect thats not what Barca and Real want though, they want a cash cow where they are playing Juve, Milan, Bayern, City every single week without challenge.

It's not about being against it. Legally it's impossible for English clubs to join.

The sporting merit bit is questionable though, if Real Madrid fall off a cliff, how do we know they won't be invited...we don't.

My guess is that it would be two 16 (or maybe 18) team leagues where, as now, each team plays all the others in its league home and away. Then the top 4 in each league qualify automatically for a post-season knockout with the teams in 5th to 12th place entering a play-off. That would leave the current R16 format where there are 8 seeded teams and 8 unseeded ones.

Tou could even do the leagues on a draw basis, with pots and teams being drawn from each pot to decided who goes in which league. You could even do a straight knockout tournament during the season, like the FA Cup. So it'd be a complete replacement for the existing competitions.

As my friend eloquently puts it, Manchester City are my team, but they have long since stopped being my club!

In a strange sort of way any new system introduced, will simply see the clubs involved becoming merely a franchise of the original forerunner, and with that, it will become the ideal time for all legacy fans to leave, and the new global fans to takeover.

It's a little sad, but times change, and our memories will remain strong.

What do you think of Barcelona, Madrid and Juventus forming the super league, it'd murder the chumps league and I suspect the premier league clubs would find a way out of their PL contract.

It's like Newcastle who signed up to FFP but it's strangling them now, they need a day in court to break free from it IMHO.

Super league will die pretty quickly if no premier clubs enter! Yeah champs league will not be the same with no Madrid Barcelona inter Juventus but no German side will be in it because there owner situation

In the short term, I presume FIFA, UEFA and the individual leagues would not share their officials and other services like VAR (big advantage for the ESL). Whilst FIFA & UEFA cream off an awful amount of money, it does do some decent stuff around the globe. It's a massive (corrupt) organisation and will be ringing around calling in favours and the stationery dept will have just placed an order for more brown envelopes. Gonna need some more popcorn!

No, I mean this 100%, I would rather the 115 charges relegate us to League 2 so we can tour up and down the country.

If the ESL does come in it cannot replace the domestic league.

We've played Bayern 13 times in 11 years, the novelty of these big European games will wear off eventually. We've played them way more than Luton in that time and probably close to the amount we've played Fulham. The concept will get tired.

If it replaces the Champions League I am less arsed but I don't see the point, other than a money maker for European sides.
It will not replace domestic leagues

We'll always have York.
