European super league

Fuck the establishment, including us if we decided to go for this and stick 2 fingers up to the likes of Leicester who absolutely deserve to play CL football next season. The beauty of the CL is that you might not make it in and if you dont? You werent fucking good enough.

This super league idea would become old hat really quick.

I know, but that isn't sport is it, it's theatre. You can still read Shakespear now, and next year and the year after. It might be entertaining the first time, but then it's going to become repetitive and boring. Without the constant cycles, ups and downs, football isn't exciting and long term would be detrimental to any team that takes part IMO.

Absolutely right .

And we already have enough " theatre " with the hype shown towards the clubs who would benefit the most - Rags and Dippers.

The statements made by Arsenal and others seem quite clear to me.

The meeting was to discuss the summer ICC tournament, held in USA, China and Australia.

As part of that, there was some discussion about Euro/PL compatibility (in terms of scheduling). I take that to mean that there was a discussion over issues that might arise - things such as any effect on the season schedule which would then knock into Euro qualifiers/crowded seasons. The next step for Rose would be to talk to UEFA.

Basically, the Sun went off on one, almost certainly knowing full well that they were printing something they knew to be incorrect.

Football continues to go away from the wishes of domestic fans and caters to the international. The principle of this invitation only competition is just wrong on so many levels.

From a club perspective, City can't afford not to be in it. We'd get left behind and everything we have worked towards in the last few years would be destroyed. I would have reservations about going to these games, but there would probably be someone who'd have my seat anyway...I'd imagine they'd be a different, more neutral type of fan, but at the end of the day City and football won't care about that.

I love City, I always will - but i'm falling out with the way football is run with each passing year.

Haven't read the whole thread but whilst it is in some ways heartening to see the horrified response of many posters, I think it could be a wake up and smell the coffee moment.

I am not particularly in favour of a European Super League and I would hate to have something that replaced domestic competition but give the middle digit to UEFA would cause me no pain given all their unfair financial play rubbish.

Also, if this party happens and we have an invitation, we have to be realistic and accept: this is not something that we can afford to miss out on.

There's nothing confirmed (as of yet) however long term I feel a Super League is inevitable.
In what shape or form I'm unsure however not including promotion/relegation and having invitation only would for me ruin the whole excitement of the sport.

I'll watch NHL now and again and I enjoy watching it but there just is no passion there as I know that the team I route for won't be relegated or anything.
Yes they could win the Stanley Cup but they can win this next year and the year after.

Football needs to preserve the ability for the smaller clubs to beat the bigger clubs, to rise and fall.
If or when this stops I would lose my interest.

I enjoy watching combat sports for this reason as anybody on their day can beat anybody (if they step up)

What I've wanted for awhile however is the inclusion of Scottish Teams to form a British League.
We already have Welsh teams so why not?
Would be great playing the likes of Aberdeen, Celtic, Rangers, Hibs and so on throughout the domestic season.
Wouldn't happen however.

The Chumps League definitely needs a revamp or some form of winter break in the English league.

It wont stop with a European super league, it will grow into a world league with clubs from China, middle east, America, its all about money.....sadly City will go with it.

I was involved in non league for a while at the time when Macclesfield were outrageously denied promotion from the conference, yet a few short years later when they were in the League actually voted against increasing promotion from the conference to the football league, rank hypocrisy and an amazing display of how they forgot their roots, Kidderminster did the same incidentally having also previously been shafted.

Dont expect City to have any hesitation in followinjg the gravy train.....should this super league emerge I for one will no longer have any interest whatsoever in either City or any other club involved.

This represents my take as well, to be honest. UEFA/FIFA/The Governing bodies can piss off. I am only interested in the interests of Manchester City. Whilst in some ways this is a more direct pulling up of the drawbridge, as long as we are in I'm happy. Nobody in football has given a moment of consideration or respect to Manchester City FA as we've grown. They can all fuck off.

Of course City as a club would want in on this if it happens. The Sheikh has earned the right to look for some kind of ROI.
