Everything Star Wars

Probably true but I'd counter that 99% of viewers are too lazy to actually be interested in storytelling or plot development - they are simply tuning in due to nostalgia and are content to be provided visual candy in the absence of anything substantive

There is zero character development, it's more a live action cartoon than sci fi story
Fookin ell, this world wide restriction of liberty is definitely affecting some more than others.

If i want deep and meaningful, believe it or not......the Disney channel isnt the first place i think of.

The original movies are far FAR away the best part of the saga but I have enjoyed the other movies and the originals gave me such a deep seated love of Star Wars; not that, despite my online alias, I'm not one of those walking encyclopaedias on the subject. I did once upon a time know a lot about how they made the original trilogy.

Anyhoo, I was suitably predisposed to like The Mandalorian but the man without a name space epic has exceeded expectation. It has become event night TV in our household - well Mrs OB1 doesn't pay it much attention - but the girls and I watch to the end of the credits every time, which was a very good thing last night.
Slight edit mate...

It was a fun episode overall, a bit of an over-reaction from some people though. I thought it was a poor choice to bring back Luke, especially with the CGI versions they have used (to failure) in Disney. At first i thought it was great, but then i couldn't keep my eyes off how creepy it looked. IMO it should have been moved inline with the current characters, or failing that it should have just been left alone as a completely different part of the universe. Anything but weird CGI characters.

It is set 5 years after return of the Jedi so the older look wouldn’t of worked maybe they could of used yoda?

Yeah i know, but they could have set it at any time really since it was in it's own ecosystem of sorts. Since Vader killed all his students (supposedly), i assume this will all link back up to the main sequence now and Grogu will be on the way to becoming the next Yoda..

Really enjoyed this.

The new Star Wars stuff is proof that no matter what you do with things set in this "universe", people will find something wrong with it.

For me, this, Rogue One, Solo, and Episode 7 have been decent enough.

However Episode 8 was atrocious which then made 9 a shit attempt at a rescue job.

Christ Bigga do you ever just sit down and watch something without pulling it to pieces?

Mando has been what most normal Star Wars fans want.

Its fun. Which was what was missing from the films after the first 3. The same with Star Trek. After Kirk it got all serious. They became all about the lore.

Most people don't really care about the lore, they want fun, action and a bloody good ending. Which is what Mando delivered.
meh.

Spoilers.....

Last episode was excellent and I loved the fact Luke came back to rescue them all. soon as that x-wing arrived I was like a giddy kipper. Took me back 40 years.

I thought the first 2 episodes of series 2 were pretty bad, but after those the rest were much better. Looking forward to Dec 2021.

"Rogue One" had been re-shot to lessen the mood of the original synopsis.

What we got was a passable version of what could have been an amazing 'Star Wars' entry. The execs panicked, so changed it. You can tell, if anyone ever paid attention, that the original trailers contained stuff never seen in the film. Disney went in a different direction and so hired Tony Gilmour to do the re-shooting.

Even then, that film is 10x what 'The Mandalorian' is and they are almost polar opposites in delivery.

I think the weakness may lie in the fight sequences. At no point do I believe 'Mando' is a 'great warrior'. He just doesn't display the skillset, but he has nifty weapons that give him the edge.

At no point does 'Mando' ever display a mastery of his hand held weapons, when you'd expect him to do so.

And that, is what I was saying before, about the 'Ashoka' entry.

At no point does anyone display mastery of hand held weapons apart from the two sharp shooters. Therein lies the fun. Do you think the wild west gunslingers hit every time? The fight sequences are supposed to be fun. A pastiche of Leone and his ilk. There lies the interest. He is vulnerable. His armour saves him on numerous occasions. If someone shot him in the arm or he'd lose. But they don't. He has surrounded himself with a band who compliment his style. They all have a common interest. The kid.

Switch of the part of your brain that has to dissect every single programme you ever watch and just sit back and enjoy. There's fun to be had.

Fun.

I got to s01e05.

I couldn't move past the fact that Mandalorians never removed their helmet. I envisaged him, at the big reveal, having a super-crusty head with a 15' long whispy beard...

My son has done both series, and the feedback is very good, similar to the bulk of this thread. So, I'll give it another go starting later tonight...

Good luck, I think I’m done before even starting series 2

Fun.
"Fun" was watching 'Darth Maul' take fight scenes to another level.

"Fun" was watching an amazing fight sequence with an angry 'Anakin' wanting to slice 'Ben Kenobi' in half.

My idea of 'fun' and potential.
