lol please can you enlighten us all on what you are basing this on? It's certainly not goals scored or assists so go on enlighten me how he is a far better CM than Milner.

I'll put it another way. IF we sign Delph he'll start more games in centre mid in one season than Milner did over his entire City career. We're supporters we think we know best but generally I reckon those buying the players know best.

We've been here before with Bellamy. The forum went into meltdown when we were linked with him and he left pretty much loved by us all.

What are you on about? Bellamy would still get into our team now
I'm pretty sure we could buy Delph this year, play him sparsely and get out money back at least next season if we so wanted to.

And what would be the point of that?

If he wasn't a success or if we have better players targeted or coming through next year to meet the homegrown quota.

When we are linked with foreign players people haven't seen a lot of, the rhetoric always seems to be how he will improve with better players around him. When it's someone people aren't excited by, it's never mentioned like that. Maybe he will thrive in a defensive midfield role with Yaya and Pogba bombing on if that's how we line up. He has good work rate and is mobile so it's not beyond the realms of possibility. He was surrounded by shit at villa and maybe was asked to do too much.

What I'm saying is at £8m he COULD be a success, helps with homegrown quota and if it isn't a success then we will get out money back in 12 or 24 months. IMO.

I don't see the gulf between Delph and Schneiderlin being as wide as you possibly believe it to be. I detect an element of snobbery from some about Delph because he is English. England have had their best run in years since he came into the side, possibly a coincidence, possibly not.

It is pretty much a risk free signing as if it doesn't work out we should be able to recoup our outlay.

If we signed a decent HG keeper and sold Willy it would free up one of the non HG slots but who do you suggest who is good enough and would be willing to be no 2 to Hart all season (not Begovic as he is Chelsea bound).
Once again the "snob" claims come about. It has nothing to do with him being English or that his name is not Delphinho.

You say free up one of the HG spots, but as @BigOscar says it's not that we have a limit we have to meet. I went into detail in a previous post, I don't wish to do so again it's there for anyone to see. The jist that I'd rather invest in quality and not a revolving door type player that we can just flog if it doesn't work out, no big deal; that's not the mindset I would personally appreciate.

Regarding a 'keeper I see no reason why someone like Green couldn't come in as back up.

The point being that even if those against the signing are right, we should be able to come out of it having not lost very much.

It is a limit that would assist us in meeting it though. Would you really want to go into a season with a smaller squad than any other of the contenders for the trophies?

I don't think a smaller squad than our competitors or a squad with Delph in it should be our only options.
