Fans leaving early.

I've never had to explain that to anybody before, I always presumed everybody said "Are you going to X mate?" "Yeah, I'll be at the X game".

How do you ask friends if they are attending a game?

woah chill out, it was a joke it was JUST a joke

I wonder if anyone will leave early to beat the traffic on Sunday, driving home not knowing if we've won (the cup!)?

well ill give stay for extra time but im not hanging about if it goes to penalties

I don't mind people leaving early. We go with my Grandad and little sister, neither of whom are the quickest walkers so we'd never beat the rush, even if we wanted to. The early leavers actually make it easier as it's less congested when we do leave a few minutes after the final whistle.

What I will say though, is that of the people around me, all the ones that leave early are twats. They're not twats because they leave early, they're just twats generally, but I find it funny that none of the people I'd be happy to socialise with outside of the stadium are part of the early-leaving brigade, and it makes it that much sweeter when we score a last minute goal, particularly if it's a winner (Barry vs Reading).

What I don't understand is taking at least 4-5 hours out of your day to go and watch the match, and then being worried about 20-30 mins at the end. If people have somewhere to be on a specific day, or work to get to etc, then it makes sense, but I'd gauge more people leave early to beat the rush than for any other reason.

-- Wed Feb 26, 2014 2:35 pm --

Don't be daft.

They'll check the result on the radio.

I'm going to Wigan but will have to leave early in order to get home and take someone to the Airport. Can I get some sort of permission slip or something? Maybe I can wear a red hula hoops?

What a ridiculous argument this is

Like I've said, I don't think it's a problem people have with individuals. I think the anger about it is a symptom of a very quiet atmosphere (perceived or real) and so when many thousands leave it angers people even more.

I bet if the atmosphere was much better no one would really give a shit if people left early.

I stay till the end for one reason only, not traffic or the hope of seeing more goals but to simply show the players some appreciation for the effort they had put in that game. win or lose.

Was thinking of taking this to a new level... I will be watching the cup final from the comfort of the local pub on Sunday.... After reading this thread, I'm getting very tempted to leave the pub 10 minutes before the match finishes in order to get home before anyone else does... I reckon I can be sat at home bored shitless with the knowledge I beat the rush and with a smug air of victory over fellow blues.

Now if that doesn't prove I'm the biggest City fan on earth then I don't know what....

To some here who say its no ones business if you leave early. Yes, you're correct, it isn't ....but it won't stop us taking the piss out of you as is our prerogative.... So as a previous post suggested I think a chorus of We'll stay til the end would definitely make us all laugh at the next home game.....we also expect your response....from outside the ground of course.....

Well said De Niro. This is mainly why I started the thread. Yes, as others have said, other clubs fans leave early, need to leave to beat the traffic etc, and that we are not the only fans to leave early. I kind of agree, but I have been watching us many years to see football this good, so I personally see no reason to want to leave early.

The ones that leave early for no particular reason, offering crap excuses because it's no one elses business, are probably responsible for the lack of atmosphere as well.
