Fans leaving early.

I'm really getting into this early leaving business. I used to hang around until everyone had left the ground then mooch back to the car, stick on the radio and listen to Radio Manchester phone in whilst stuck in the car park, watching fellow blues nudging forward dangerously close to my car, trying to gain that slight advantage in search of the holy grail, that is the car park exit. Any feelgood factor from the victory can evaporate in that hour or so trying to negotiate your exit.

Now, generally If we're winning by, say, 2 goals on about 88 mins, I say cheers to the regulars sat around me, and sprint to the car..love turning on the car radio and hearing the final whistle go...and I'm away..smile on my face....not a care in the world...life is good.

If we are drawing I never leave early.

If we are losing I never leave early.

In both instances I think it's my duty as a fan, to give the lads a clap for their efforts, but if we've done the job, won the game and got the 3 points..then I'm out of there to enjoy my Saturday night..sorry, but that's the truth!

This has probably been covered before.

No I don't think it has.

Are you serious?

This topic is so old you can find it in the British Museum in Cairo.

Me and Our Kid rarely leave before the end, and I have 180 miles to travel home, but the ground is much worse to get away from for us: we are usually passing by wherethe old ground was at around the time we used to be back at Our Kid's (near Middlewich).

I can't blame people for trying to save some journey time.

Totally agree with the OP. We like to think we are great fans but more and more over the past few years have taken to leaving early and it is embarrassing.

I love taking the mickey out of the rags for them leaving early against us but they can always throw it back at me when highlights on MotD show loads of empty seats five mins before end of our games. We are tonking sides yet their fans stay and support them to the end. Look at West Ham, one or two left but majority stayed even though they had a long trip back.

Yes OB1, it has been covered before and many times before, we have had a decent reason for leaving en masse, and that reason was mainly that we had seen enough of crap football played by crap players with no heart or desire. I appreciate that you live in Oxfordshire, and we have many others living many miles away, but if I lived miles away and had paid £600 plus for a S/C as well as the cost of travel, etc, I would make sure I stayed to the end, whatever the result was at time of leaving.

i leave 2-3 mins early every game and will continue too until they can sort the road traffic issues out around the ground.

the last time i chose to stay to the end, i was nearly lynched by city fans for apparently pulling out into the road in front of them

I'm so glad someone has finally brought this up...

Why do the actions of someone which will have absolutely no impact on your life cause any worry? If people want to leave good on them, I mostly stay these days. Leaving a bit earlier is nothing like leaving a film or show as that's generally when you discover what's being going on for the last 2 hours, City being 5-0 up, you can usually guess the way it might go. Appreciating the players is another point brought up, they couldn't give a shit, they tend to hug each other, blow kisses to their families and be on their way home in time for splash like the rest of us.
It's because good supporters stay and support.

What kind of blurt takes the piss out of someone because some fans did what fans have done at every club In the country for decades? Seriously? Does this guy say "well you might be a brilliant team who are breaking records, stuffed us 4-1, have won 5 out of the last 6 derbies and are firm favourites for the league, but loads of people left with two minutes to go on Saturday, so it's all a bit hollow"

It's fucking kids stuff. Pathetic. And it's accompanying "I'm a massive blue and I never leave" harrumphing is even worse.

This has probably been covered before but it has now got to a point where I think it's getting embarrassing. When the whistle blew yesterday, I looked around the stadium and I bet there was probably less than 30 000 still inside. I find it disrespectful to the players when applauding them off, they look into the stands and see that many can't be bothered to stay till the end. I can accept some leaving, but when it's near half empty, there is no excuse.
This is the best and most exciting football we have seen since the Mercer Alison era, so why thousands decide to leave with upto10 mins to go is beyond me. In the 9 goal thriller v Arsenal, 3 goals were scored in the last 5 minutes , yet many had already left the scene.

It never used to be like this, and I remember when we got thrashed 5-1(I think) at Maine road v Arsenal where most stayed till the end chanting "We're gonna win 5-4!." We have seen some awful football in the past where leaving early could be excused for. but I cannot understand why so many choose to leave early nowadays...
Yes it has been covered before.
