For those who think National Healthcare is a bad idea...

People need to mind their own business and worry about their own countries. The NHS is a treasured institution here but we’ve no business telling others what to do with their politics.
So treasured the Government is privatising it. The legislation is now passing through Parliament that will absolve the government from providing free healthcare for all and will split the country into 46 areas run largely by American health companies with their own ideas on what should be provided after their budget for the year has been decided.

Have a good, close look at the Care and Health Bill passing through parliament at the moment if you think the NHS is safe?

It's one of the strange conflicts of interests that took place in the run up to the brexit referendum with their big red bus wandering around the country with £350M a week to the NHS plastered on the side.

Nothing could be further from the truth, as free healthcare for all was mandated with our membership of the EU, and now we are out, the tories can finally realise their lifelong ambition of getting rid of it.

Sorry to piss on your chips, but you have no idea what is going on and the tories haven't wasted any time introducing the legislation that will rid the taxpayer of paying for free healthcare.

My American daughter in law can tell you all about the health service in the US and all about her brother who, 6 years after, is still paying off the hospital fees for the birth of his 2 children. She thinks it is amazing over here.

She was absolutely gobs smacked the day she got here with my son with a broken ankle, walked into QMS Nottingham and walked out 4 hours later without paying a penny. She isn’t going back to good old US of A any time soon.
That is some shit health insurance!

Under an HMO, child birth is free (my son). When my wife was ALREADY pregnant with him, we switched insurance because my daughter (first born) had cost us about $10,000 out of pocket, because of complications.

I don’t know what kind of health insurance your daughter in law’s brother(!) had, but you could walk into almost any health insurer and get better coverage.

The thing with insurance is if you think you can get away with the bare bones (very low premiums for very low coverages) you are often fooling yourself!

In the States, it pays to understand not only what your premiums are, but also what you’re actually getting for what you pay. Sounds like your distant non-blood “relative” dropped a bollock with their coverage!

Why would anyone think national health care is a bad idea?
The issue with the British National Health Service is that it is “socialized medicine” in American terms, and is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from the “Healthcare for all” mantra in many other countries.

When the Hospitals & Doctors & Nurses all work for (and are employed & paid by) the Govt, that’s a different kettle of fish from COVERAGE FOR ALL in an incentive-based system of independent or conglomerated medical setting.

Sometimes, the issues Bro g discussed SOUND similar, but are far different in reality.

Contacted 2 dermatologists last week asking for an appointment to be told they didn't take the health care insurance that I pay for through my employer's health scheme.
So what the fuck am I supposed to do next?
Ask your health insurer for a dermatologist who does take their insurance?

IMO this misses the point.

Health insurance ought to be a right; provided, for free by the government.

Whereas the model where individuals are responsible for their own health insurance and need to pay for it - is obviously unfair to those who are poor. Poor individuals might not be able to afford good health coverage after paying for food, rent, school, and so forth.

Sounds more like health insurance was so expensive that income had to be spent elsewhere. And moreover, that such shit insurance is even legal is morally repugnant.
