Gas & Electricity

I submitted my meter reading and discovered I have overpaid by over a grand. That means BG is earning interest on my money and I'm not. I wonder how much money they are holding of people like me. The whole thing stinks. I live on my own, work from an office and my DD is £327 a month. Feel like I have been done over
You have been. We have all been

What company are you with, can you not just switch to paying the bill monthly.

I do my meter readings, get an exact bill and pay it. As you say, the less money in their bank accounts the better.

A mate had thousands in credit at one of the companies that went bust, i know its all protected but I really wouldn't want to be dealing with any hassle like that.

A mate told me the same thing. I'll be doing that moving forwards. I was stupid enough to believe that the recommended DD amount was based on science, not on how much they could lift from me to earn money on themselves. British Gas are just thieves and cnuts. The regulator must also do VAR as how they see this practice as fair is beyond belief.

They usually want you to have 2 months’ worth of credit just in case so based on £327 that’s just over one extra month so not hugely different. Obviously you need to work out what your annual usage is, then calculate how that works out as an average monthly payment, and suggest the figure to them. Ask them to refund all the credit less 2 months of this new amount and you should be back on track.

I am £700 in credit, my mother is £820 in credit, my next door neighbour claims to be £700 in credit, best mate says he is around £550 in credit, Sister in law around £650 in credit.

In short come the end of March the weather should buck up and I can see huge numbers of people having their money tied up, a concern i have is that I have tried to drop my DD on line and I am being advised it is only possible to drop by 10% per month. (to protect me is seems)

Last month was the big bill following the very cold snap in December, my credit dropped by just £20.

Our last monthly bill was 33% less than what it was last year, now we've moved house, still do the constant heating thing due to Mrs Moon's ongoing condition & transferred our plan to the new house which is give or take the same size, just a mid terrace now rather than an end house.

The insulation in our new place though is much better. My advice would be to target draughts etc and the money will fall.

Waiting on my £600 voucher coming through from NI gov any day. Will be very handy to get me through the next few months of gas and electric!
