Gas & Electricity

The standing charge is an outrage and VAT is charged on it too. I'm surprised there's not more of a public outcry that the first £300+ of our energy bills each year pay for not a single kWH of energy. But it's not so much the companies but the last government who established this "market". I still remember Kwasi Kwarteng being proud that the market was working "as it should".
Martin Lewis talking about it this morning saying he was disappointed that the discussions that have been going on about lowering it but making the units a higher price had not been released and fears it’s not going to happen, so higher users pay more it’s only fair, but when have businesses cared about that!

Set our thermostat at 18.5 and left on 24 hours a day now costing about £5 a day, I can live with that with the log burner on downstairs house is bliss and we can afford it

Even though we have had to revert to a fixed tariff due to the smart meter not acquiring half hour readings, the Octopus are still hard at work in the background to resolve our dilemma. Incredible, just incredible!

Hello Gunny,
I hope you’re safe and well, I’m getting in touch today on behalf of the escalations team at Octopus Energy Services. We have received your details and understand that you’ve been waiting a while to get this resolved.

I am just looking at resources to see what we can do and the soonest free slot at the moment is November 28th between 1pm and 5pm. The engineer will call en route on the day to give you a better idea of when they will be arriving. I have popped this on hold for you and we just need your confirmation to get the booking finalised. We need someone over the age of 18 present for the duration of our engineer visits, but this doesn't have to be yourself - it can be a friend, neighbour, or family member. A few things to note for your appointment:
  • The engineer will need somewhere close by to park.
  • If there are any obstructions / if the engineer will need a ladder to reach your meters please let us know. The maximum height our engineers can work at is 7.2ft
  • The engineer will need to turn the power off for approximately an hour.
  • Do you have a MEM consumer unit? As these are prone to trip with our type of meters (it will have “MEM” or “Memera” written on the unit).
  • The engineer will also need to enter the property to do a few safety checks. We're unable to keep the slot on hold indefinitely, and we definitely don’t want to send an engineer over if it isn’t convenient for you, so please let us know if this slot works for you – to confirm, please reply to this email.
Love and Power,
Loulou

Many companies could use them as a template for how to do things properly.

Get washing and cooking early.

It's been a while, Janos,

On Sunday, the early bird gets the Free Electricity: start your Sunday the right way. A cosy brew, a hearty fry-up, and a DOUBLE DOSE of free power!

Use more power on Sunday 24 November: 7-9am.

Is that anyone on Octopus, or do you need to be on a particular tariff/contract?

We have just received a final resolution from Octopus in regard to our smart meter failing to supply readings. They initially placed all of our consumption from October onto their Flexible Octopus as an interim measure, and have now closed down our complaint by fully refunding all electricity usage since October as a gesture of goodwill. Hoozah!

We also have an engineer calling tomorrow to investigate and reboot or replace the meter.
Bravo Octopus ..Bravo:

Hi Gunny,
I hope you are well.
I have been attempting to gather the missing data over the past week. However, these attempts have not been successful. This, therefore, means that your billing has been completed on the Flexible Octopus from the 12th to the 14th of September and the 16th of October to the 18th of November.

This bill came to a total of £86.12, which I am happy to credit to your account as a resolution for the complaint.
You did make me aware that you have taken great steps in shifting your energy consumption to the cheaper unit rates, which we cannot bill due to the meter. Therefore, I am happy to cover the charges on the Flexible Octopus tariff.

You also have a meter appointment scheduled to take place shortly to reboot the meter to help this regain its communication. If you would like to discuss this resolution further, then please do let me know.
I look forward to hearing back from you.
Kind Regards.

I went heating free last winter. Fuck that again! The heating isn’t on all the time, but it’s on to heat the house up for quite a while. When the temperature eventually drops again in the house, I turn the heating on again. In the meantime, in bed with the electric blanket on, that doesn’t cost much.
