Predicted this would happen. This will be the number one rated news channel within a month of it’s launch.
Isn't it subscription only? I'd have thought that in itself will stop it challenging the others in terms of overall numbers.

96% audience targeted, it's on freeview, apparently.

Have they confirmed which number it will be? Presumably between the other pornographic channels like Television X and Babestation. Their target audience better stock up on lube to prevent any chaffing as they will be wanking themselves silly at all the glorious obnoxiousness.

Hilarious, let's see how it goes, I don't think their target audience is aimed
at the half dozen or so who watch channel 4, it's going for the Beeb, who have now given up
trying to be impartial. Not that independent stations need to be, they can put whatever slant they like on what they send out, the BBC's charter demands an impartiality that is not being implemented, hence the rise of these new channels.

The BBC is more often than not too impartial and often offers a platform to those undeserving of it for the sake of balance...There is a great debate on this, funnily enough on the BBC, about impartiality impeding good journalism (the Across The Red Line series).

I find those who have an issue with the BBC tend to lean towards the far sides of the political spectrum and quickly cry bias in favour of the other side.

The rise of these alternative news channels is down to unscrupulous media moguls taking advantage of people looking for an echo chamber to feel comfortable in.

Indeed.

General election: Greens complain about BBC's UKIP coverage

Just one example of the Beeb giving greater coverage to those with loud voices but with limited appeal.

Well, you are wrong, certainly about those you blithely declare as 'Far side of the political spectrum.' This forum is dominated by left wing opinion, which is fair enough, to each their own, and to a man/woman all defence of the BBC comes from that side, again understandable, as it chimes with their stance.
Alternative platforms are rubbished, and claimed they're filled with fascists/racists/ gammon etc; anything to disparage, which makes me smile, as it doesn't reflect the majority. The recent move away from the BBC, which is growing apace, is a relatively recent phenomenon, this body was respected domestically, and internationally, and there is still, even amongst its detractors, a fondness for it, but this is fast slipping away.
We have heard Maitliss presenting her opinions as fact, we have seen talk shows dominated by the left, any 'Comedy' or comedians, are also dominated by politics, all from one side, unsurprisingly, these have miniscule audiences.
Investing in a new TV programme now is very risky, online platforms have many competitors, so they must have done their research, as the cost is enormous. Personally, I think it will succeed, a view which others with a similar view, but different politics, seem to agree with, as the attacks prior
to its release are showing, apple carts may be overturned.

A big problem the BBC have is that the best indicator of impartiality is that if everyone thinks they are biased and should be defunded. I'm far from thrilled with the BBC myself at times, but the loudest calls for defunding and reform often seem to come from competitors which is a bit dubious.

This. Totally

I read a report in an American news outlet about how Britain could be set for its own Fox news style channel and I guess this is it?

They warned that just like in America one of the first things they will do is attack ofcom and argue for free speach.

I think they'll do well, there's a big market for Fox style news and all of the fake news they have pumped out (ultimately to convince the people that they should overthrow their govn.) but hey ho.
If it is a UK style Fox, how is Ofcom allowing this to happen?

I think OfCom require a news program to represent the news fairly - they can invite anyone they want to give opinion, and there appears to be no need for that to be balanced except if an individual/organisation is the focus.
Also, the wording suggests to me that there's plenty of room to wriggle and present the news neutrally, but to select what news they present as they see fit.

If that Press Gazette thing just above is fair, it's going to have shouting shops and Hartley-Brewers.

I'm not wrong. You just disagree with what I have posted.

We do see the far sides of the political spectrum having issues with the BBC. The far left see it as favouring the Right, the far Right see it favouring the Left...For every Maitliss, there is a Kuenssberg etc.

The comedy point is nonsense and is being covered in another thread.

Alternative platforms are rubbished for a reason, they skew heavily towards their target demographic (Fox News for example) if you believe you'll find any balance there you are greatly mistaken.

Of course it will be a success, people like having something that echo's their own views, it gives them comfort and doesn't challenge them.

And you disagree with mine, and the reason is a dismissal of BBC bias.
This, of course is expected and there's no point in a to and fro, but it's clear
that all its supporters are of the left, its presenters make no effort not to proclaim as such on social media. You are quite right about targeted demographics, Fox etc; have a right wing stance, CNN, MSNBC, a left wing stance, you probably lean towards the latter two, I don't. So we consume
what we like, and everyone is free to do so.
So because of this, Neil has started this channel, which I believe will do well, but if the Beeb has balanced, unbiased content, like you allege,
it will fail, won't it?

A list of quotes from former and current presenters, the first from that
reactionary bastard Andrew Marr ;)

Why is the new Director doing this?
