Yeh I started buying second hand last year - can't see me buying new for the foreseeable. I quite like that they already have a story to them before you buy them (plus better for the environment - there must already be enough to go round for us all).Maybe look at Takamine, eg. The Takamine P1NC Pro Series Acoustic Guitar is a beautiful Japanese made acoustic guitar by Takamine.
Or an American Ovation, if a roundback appeals.
Both would hold their value and are very good acoustics.
I'D buy second hand I always do.. preferable to paying new prices.
You've struck a chord. I will desist.Stop fretting over nothing you silly man.
Martins are great guitars if that’s the sound you want. They also invented the dreadnought. I guess it depends what you want and your budget. Do you mainly play chords, fingerstyle or a mix? Do you want an all solid instrument? Are you prepared to pay a premium for the branding? There are loads of all-solid guitars for a lot less than a D45. To be honest there are loads of great Martins for a lot less. What's an equivalent more appropriately priced competitor if you've come across one?
Absolutely no judgement from me (as I effectively took an extended break from it for God knows how long), but that makes me feel slightly sad.I have a Ibanez acoustic, Hofner verythin 6 string electric and an Eastwood 12 string electric. They’re all gathering dust, sadly. Lost all interest in playing as I have kind of hit the wall with regards to my ability. I have played in a band since I was at school but tbh I was never that good. All my lead guitar breaks are based around the pentatonic scale and I just can’t be arsed progressing beyond it. It’s served me ok for 30 odd years winging it in pubs and half the time (most of the time) the punters don’t hear my mistakes. COVID has killed it stone dead really for me. Not missed playing one bit and wouldn’t bother me if I don’t play ever again. I’m 53 now and I’ve had my day playing at being a rock star. Enjoyed it though, usually.
Yes I can see that but life moves on and I’d much rather be a punter in the pub than suffer the ball ache of lugging all my gear about, setting up, playing, taking it all back down and generally being sober amongst a load of pissed up punters :)Absolutely no judgement from me (as I effectively took an extended break from it for God knows how long), but that makes me feel slightly sad.
Covid was what prompted me to pick them up again............
If money wasn't a factor, would you end up with a D45 or the like or are they literally no better (granted you may be paying thousands for that very small edge of any)?Martins are great guitars if that’s the sound you want. I treated myself to a new acoustic last year during lockdown. I looked at some smaller Martins (OM and 000 sized) but eventually settled on a Furch as it suited my needs a bit better. Horses for courses etc.
