Harry Kane

Sterling needs to play on the right. He's just come off an international tournament where many neutrals thought he was the best player playing on the right and now he's back on the left.

I imagine he'll be back on the right as soon as Phil is back if Mahrez keeps playing like he did today.
Read somewhere that Sterling had his best form when he could swap between flanks during matches and be unpredictable. Wasn’t he on the left at the Euro’s?

Lee was bad, as were (too) many others, but most at least gave defenders something to think about.
Defenders are rarely if ever bothered by Jesus. He occasionally benefits from mistakes, but doesn't force defenders into making mistakes.
He's definitely more of a winger than a striker and I think it's unfair to expect too much of him.

Curious - do you actually watch any games ? Also assuming you’re talking about the Spanish Jesus rather than the Brazilian one. This is the sort of comment I see from a lot of people who watch tv highlights and never the actual match.

He does get a hard time off a lot of folk I agree. The media have softened up though out of guilt which is a nice development after a horrid start.

Hopefully Kane helps. I don't think he'll magically change Sterling, but I'm hopeful Kane's presence allows us to play a slightly altered system that suits him.

Personally I'd like to believe last season was a bit of an anomaly tactically, with Pep making do for the lack of Aguero. Therefore we would be going back to the way we played in 18/19 or 19/20 (but better). That would help both Sterling and Jesus, and Kane would score a hatful.

Guess we'll see.
The bold is the key.

There is alot of talk that bring in Kane (a real striker) and we will see a better Sterling. But I'm not really buying it, I think all you really need is a system tweak.

I could understand if we played a 433, but in reality we play more of a 442 with one of our 10s playing next to the striker.

So if we continue to do this, then I don't think people will see the change they expect.

Compared to watching Liv vs Norwich, and confirming what we all know, Liverpool press in a very obvious 433, with those lines being very clear, the wingers CAN be kind of striker-like (Salah and Mane). I honestly don't think you need a "real" striker to let your winger perform like this (as Firmino is a false 9), Pep just has to tweak the system at all.

In our clear 442, there is already 2 players occupying the central attacking spaces. Now "sometimes" the attacking midfielder (Grealish) and the winger (Sterling) swap places and we see Sterling next to the striker, but this happens more on a rotational/situational basis rather than by default like at Liverpool.

One of the problems is more often than not, no one’s busting a gut to get into the attacking spaces.
