Has the BBC become a Tory tool?

To answer your first question I am self employed, this place is the only forum/social media that I would dare post, as I think its fairly safe to air your views with others who have a common interest (supporting City).

No one gives a shit what I think or write on here apart from the odd "triggered" member.

Gary lineker is a figurehead of the bbc and has to be careful of what he says publicly as it could be seen as the view of his employers, totally different situation.

If I posted on here that I thought we were shit yesterday no one would care, but if Pep posted the same on facebook/or twitter or whatever, well, see the difference.

I am all for free speech myself and dont necessarily agree with whats happening, but surely he has no need to court controversy in his priveleged position, and I dont like the bbc sport section anyway hence my comments on it, I do help fund it though.

If there is a political side to all this I am not interested in it, just the common sense(or lack of it) from lineker.
I agree and think free speech is much more important than just the usual tribal responses, it's vital for how society should work and how ideas are brought forward tried and tested.
Lineker's opinion should carry no more weight than anyone else's, but trying to stifle his opinions, no matter how insulting they are to people who suffered against the German National Socialist Party has simply given him the opportunity to play the victim .I believe in the old maxim 'better to let people think you're an idiot ,than open your mouth and prove it.(and yes my 8year old grandson has already made that joke)

Lineker was tweeting about the language of the HS being another indication of the rise of nationalism and racial prejudice, which seems to be on the rise. Hence the comparison with 1930s Germany.
Tell Chris b that. He wants Lineker to have "compared the govn to Hitler".... So he can be outraged, so he can justify the hatred he has of either the BBC, Lineker, lefties, take your pick.

Lineker said the language is the same. And thb its true. Chris b should worry more about about freedom of speech being taken away. Strangely not that bothered about it.

The biggest group of illegal immigrants arriving by boats are Albanians. I doubt you or I could tell them apart from British people by looking at them. A Home Secretary setting out actions to be taken against criminals (illegal migration is a crime after all) does not constitute demonisation of an ethnic group.

People have said that Lineker should have the right to compare the Nazi regime to anything he likes. Ok, that’s a view and I agree he should have that right, just that it is crass and offensive to exercise it. But surely by any standard the Home Secretary should have the right, and indeed the duty, to talk freely and frankly about people committing crimes. That is her job.
The asylum seekers are not illegal immigants, who are usually here fraudulently and working and don’t come across the channel on dinghy's, nor are they criminals. At least not until after ther have had their cases heard and considered, then we may find one or two are. Detaining them while refusing to listen to them or treat them with decency while considering their application, that is illegal and shouldn’t be tolerated, because whose rights are ignored next.

Appreciate your responses Chris, but from everything you're saying throughout a number of posts, it seems we're only allowed to compare anything to Nazi Germany when the exact same thing happens. Who determines what similarities we are allowed to mention?

Meanwhile Britain moves gradually further away from having a caring and welcoming society.
Like Klopp’s management of Liverpool apparently?

I wonder if it was the most watched MOTD in recent years due to the controversy surrounding it, I know a lot of people watched it for first time in years including myself, so probaby was

The Tory’s have actually gone mad….
36 Tory MPs and Lords have decided Lineker’s suspension isn’t good enough.

They’ve written to Tim Davie demanding a full apology “without reservation” from Mr Lineker.
They also want an independent investigation.

The Streisand Effect being amplified beyond any previously known examples. Madness….

They know exactly what they are doing.

It is now a scale thing, a case of how toxic can you make the other stance look, by support in numbers.

Currently anyone looking to take Gary's role on, were he to be replaced, won't touch it, it is way too toxic. Most have stepped away, leaving the BBC looking weak in acting for a party that has made some extreme remarks in pursuing a harsh policy. Pretty much everyone, whether they believe it or not, are publicly least doing what everyone else is doing, in condemning it or showing support for GL.

But get enough numbers to claim public support the other way, whether on social media and then conventional media for an opposing view, and someone will might come forward, because the other position then starts to look unreasonable.

They are just going to the measures that appeal to the lowest common denominator, to come out of the woodwork. And there will be enough xenophobia and right wing appetite to latch on to and then feed, to do it. As can be seen by some comments on the thread today.
