Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

They turned up but didn't turn over the Clarence. Regarding a return, two lots went up. two or maybe three Coaches went to Chester Le Street. After a booze most got the Rattler to Newcastle. Right off and into the Pub right across the road. A few of there lads in there who we told to go tell their mob City were here. Nothing happened and City walked to the ground on the way a couple of Pubs closed their doors and one had a window put through but not sure if it was their main Pub. City stood on the corner behind there end for a bit but Newcastle didn't show so they went in. A second lot went to Whitley Bay and had a run in and came out on top in the Haymarket area when they got off the Metro.
Now live in Whitley Bay, been up here for the last 4 years.
The people up here are very welcoming, so will ask about the City fans coming here.
They hate the Trafford Tramps for various reasons.
Have heard Whitley Bay was a massively different place 25 years ago.
A hotbed of Stag/Hen Parties with lots of clubs and late bars.
Apparently, it kicked off up here every weekend then.
So might have been nothing out of the ordinary ?

Someone from the blazing squad (is that West Ham) just popped up on a Facebook page.

I know a few things in life, and another is that I’d never want to be punched by someone with arms as big as that. Shit tattoos though.

Bring Back Swales created an interesting debate among my mates. He mentioned Newcastle thrashing the Clarence which they never did but he saw a mob leaving the area with glass splattered around. I think now what he saw was the attack by Boro who turned up late a caught a few outside. City backed off into the rear room at the Pub and this is where I think they put a window in at the front. They certainly didn't get inside and trash the place. Newcastle and also Chelsea turned up but only a skirmish outside and Chelsea got chased to Maine Road. Of all the mobs that came I think that a lot of people rate Boro highly.
Never said that mate, I was talking about Boro

It was Spence with a foot in each firm… FYC and MiB
Not sure if you was on the same flight as us going out to Amsterdam in 93 for the Holland game where they beat us 0-2 in Rotterdam. Spence and his lot were on our flight which was quite a turnout from all parties, it was quite lively to say the least in Amsterdam the night before the game and also in Rotterdam the day of the game.

Talking of Scottish firms, and this is a bit random ...was talking to a lad in a pub few months back who said he used to run Motherwells firm back in the 80s/90s iirc. I think he said Motherwell..

Distinctive looks ,of Asian decent ,and he looked the part tbf. he freely admitted he grew up as a youngster in Motherwell and took several beatings as a young lad due to his ethnicity....he learned to confront his attackers and got into the football, where he quickly progressed through the ranks ,to the top as it were , even being called upon,he said, by other top firms to help out against common enemies who visited Scotland. He did say his name but I was pissed....

Anyone know of this lad ?
Darlington have/had a friendship with Motherwell.

When was that?

I've read books, that haven't been about football hooliganism, that have said there where mass fights between "football fans", basically one area against another going back well over a hundred years ago at football games.

Not necessarily big clubs, but town against town fights.

More local then than travelling across the country but it's always been going on.
140 years, Preston

A 70 year old woman haha

My stag do/weekend was in Newcastle in 2002. We went to Whitley Bay on the Sat night, with some Newcastle lads who were in the cells with some of ours after the Haymarket set to. Friendships made! Whitley Bay was great.

Sounds about right for Whitley back 25 to 30 years ago, small firm of Pompey and Brum got hammered up there in the early to mid nighties. Took one of the Pompey lads to hospital when he got back, he was a proper mess, said they got destroyed by a Newcastle firm in a night club and outside as well.

Darlo Vagabonds I think they called themselves, came to Stockport with intent a couple of times.
I was told ,at my first Darlo match.,there s the Darlo boot boys
Never heard of the vagobones...but I was only an occasional match goer. If Darlo played on the Fri...and City were on the sat..I'd be there, and I do remember Stockport away on a Friday night late 80s
My mate wasn't a fighter.and neither was I but it was a good way of getting the grounds in,
Think I saw Darlington at Stockport before I saw City there...how mad is that.
Asa Hartford was player manager that night. He just sat in the semi circle spraying balls round the park short and long.never left the semi circle...come to think of it..there was an edge to to the atmosphere, late 80s Darlo at Stockport, looking back.,..i prob dodged the trouble. ..
