Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

I'm sure I remember a story when I was a young kid, still at junior school so mid/late 70's. They were playing City away and hundreds of them got off the train in Stalybridge and went on the rampage, frightening the old dears out doing their Saturday shopping. About their limit that.

I’m guessing we’re about the same age pal?, seen some major violence with us, but prob missed the worst of it, the 70’s early 80’s!?, Everton away in league cup ‘88 is worst iv’e ever seen with city, another level & we gave as good as we got, I was 19yrs old & “game as fuck” or so I thought, that night scared me I’m still honest now

I was at Everton that night, loads of blues got slashed including a good mate. Like you say a scary night, on another level, I was 20. You think you're hard at that age but when you see proper mobs like that night in their mid/late 20's and thirties and it's kicking off everywhere it's scary but you do what you have to do to get out of there in one piece.

Wasn't there in 88 but the 81 quarter final at Goodison and the league cup semi at Anfield the same year was the worse violence I have ever seen. Scousers happy to use blades at thee time while Mancs fought with fists and boots. You can be as game as f**k but anyone thinks twice about being slashed or stabbed. The violence at Goodison was repaid with interest at Maine Rd at Maine Rd the following Wednesday, an Everton mate said it was the scariest night he ever had.

The 81 game at Goodison I was at.......The racism was off the scale by scousers that day.

The cops were total cunts too.

Unreal derby that one. I was in the Kippax that day and the amount of coins ricocheting off the terracing was crazy. I'm sure the rags didn't have it all their own way that day

And we fucked the cunts 3 0. The Kippax was immense that night.

I love this thread, it brings back memories of when football was so fucking different (good and bad)

There were a few United fans in the kippax corner close to the North stand who got slapped hard going out via the fence gate escape. The atmosphere that day was charged, unbelievable, there was an air of City are back and on the pitch we destroyed them with our local lads,Lake,White etc running the big spenders ragged. The weather was hot too, funny that Bishop probably the smallest player on the pitch gets a diving header so far out too.

City causing mayhem at Oldham.

Like many other City fans I was there that day.

And it was total mayhem all through the match, and throughout the day.

Has anyone still got those ladders?

Before I went up the ladder I was climbing the floodlight

Someone was shouting me to get down from behind me , to this day I have no idea who it was

That top photo looks like Boundary Lane, Hulme .... near to where Trinity High School is now.

Nottingham Forest in the early 70s was a bad one .... the game at their place in the FA Cup on a bleak Sunday afternoon.

Forest were a bad lot back then, and were well up for trouble that day, our coach got bricked on the way in ... the Forest yobs had us cornered in the ground, and one or two City fans clambered halfway up a floodlight pylon trying to escape the trouble.

To make matters worse we got stuffed 4-1 !
