why no beers?
what has alcohol got to do with having a camera up yer bum?

in all seriousness,
think of it this way...
at least you can have a wank this evening.
i cannot.

No alcohol, no drinks with dye in them, tea or coffee no milk.

never trust a doctor who tells you to avoid alcohol.
how would they even know if you had?

regardless,
you may as well have a wank then :)

First of two shit days for me.

Today, no food from 1pm to prep for my procedure tomorrow. In 30 minutes I start taking Plevu laxative to clear me out, nothing to eat, no beers to ease the worry, going to be a long evening.

Tomorrow morning , up at 6, more lax, apparently it’s brutal and I’ll be on the bog quite a lot.

Tomorrow afternoon, at Ashton (Tameside) hospital for 2:15pm, first procedure Gastroscopy, camera down the throat, wait 15 minutes then Colonoscopy, camera up the jacksy.

All stems from a test that reveals I have a high blood count in my waste, and told very matter of fact I could have bowel cancer.

So, no matter how crap your day is I’m probably trumping it at the moment, however, there’s always someone worse off and I’m mid 60’s so have had a life, whatever they throw at me I’ll try and handle with dignity and acceptance.

I posted earlier my diabetes is the best it’s ever been and my kidneys are in great shape so fingers crossed, hope you all have a good day tomorrow.
Hope all goes well today Mark.

Cheers pal, 2:15, walking down there, had the two doses to cleanse the bowels, one last night, one at 6am this morning. Even that’s not pleasant, most disgusting thing I’ve drank in my life and you have to it slowly over an hour. On countdown to procedure now and feeling very nervous.

You'll be fine mate. I've had both procedures a few times. You don't feel anything really.
Bit of blood in poo is no big deal, could be internal hemoroids or something.

Apparently there's a new medication out now in tablet form. I doubt it will be available for peasants like me. I must have had 5/6 colonoscopies, last but one I'd arrived early only to be told the Doctor had ducked. The procedure for me is no problem but the med yuck !! Anyway, our thoughts are with you and will be looking forward to some positive posts from you later.

Thanks Bill, I have been told I have high amounts of blood in my waste, that’s the worry.

If it helps I'm off for a 90 min walk up the seafront and then 4/5 beers as I've been 'fasting' as well, just been for blood tests this morning re slight diabetes markers last year so not had a beer for a week to probably try and keep any warning signs down for the vampires.

Yep, the med is horrible, for anyone who’s never had it it’s almost impossible to describe what it tastes like, thanks for you kind words.

@hammocity I had bowel cancer back in late 2022. One emergency ileostomy and they cut the **** out of me. Hopefully you won’t have to go through what I did but we’ve all got your back if you do.

I had a colonoscopy last year and am fine. Now on the waiting list for reversal so I no longer have to use a bag.

Best of luck, friend.

Thanks but blimey that’s a lot go through, thankfully technology has given you a second chance, I’m walking to the hospital as it’s only 10 minutes from my house, I’ll be appreciating the fresh air.

The cancer op itself was fine. I knew nothing of it and was sedated for a while afterwards. It’s the subsequent medication that knackered me. I was weak as anything for a month.

The positive I have is that it’s changed me as a person considerably. For the better.

Really sorry to hear that. Wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

Honestly, I’m fine. Bowel cancer claimed my grandad (whom I never met) and my dad. I was 42 when it happened and knew what it was before the medical people gravely approached me. I’d always been prepared for it.

One emergency ileostomy sorted it. I was in and out of Clatterbridge and Arrowe Park (Wirral hospitals) regularly but getting the all clear was worth it.

you'll be wandering down there now,
probably worrying yourself.
let us all know how you got on, won't you.

eggs and potatoes are good for the stomach after a fast.
washed down with some much needed booze, i'd imagine.

blimey.
glad to hear you're on the mend.

well, it's nowt compared to what others are going through,
but i had a camera in my ear today...

i woke up almost deaf in the left one this morning.
everything sounded muffled,
i could hear my heart beating in it
and when i spoke i could hear my voice inside my skull.
fucking weird.

straight on the phone to a hearing centre,
they got me at noon.
the audiologist inserted the camera
and i saw the inside of the ear on a screen.

"there's a piece of metal in there. look."
lo and behold,
a long thin curled piece of shiny metal wrapped around the drum.
like a tiny earring or summat.
it scared the fucking shit out me.
i asked him how it had got in there.
he said "i don't know but we need to get it out."
he flushed it with warm water (irrigation they call it)
but the damned thing didn't come out.
he tried again, while i carried on shitting myself.
then out it came!
it was just a 3cm hair from off of my head, that's all.
phew.
i'm having a stiff drink.

it took my mind off little calum, that's for sure.
i'd better attend to him now,
see how he's progressing.
