Re: I have just been told.............

David`s not all bad ! Correct me if I`m wrong but he is the only Premiership player to score a hat trick against the scum in a victory
for Blackburn. Where he played very well for a couple of years under Mr Hughes and along side RSC for one of them !

Re: I have just been told.............

Cant Weiss play on both the left and right side?

Re: I have just been told.............

While Bentley is a bit of a tit and hasnt had the best 12 months, I dont think anyone can doubt there is a footballer in their somewhere. He used to be brilliant for blackburn and that strike he made at Arsenal last year was something special. I also think we need a specialist set piece taker in the sqaud somewhere. Plus is sweep gets injured theirs no real solid cover, bar Weiss. Ill be dissapointed if Weissys development gets slowed because of Bentley and he should be coming merely as a sqaud player barring form.

Re: I have just been told.............

Wouldn't mind Bentley here as Hughes has shown he can get the best out of his former players. However, the numbers talked about by Spursmad amount to daylight robbery. I'd rather an unhappy Petrov on the bench than be taken to the cleaners by Spurs. Petrov + £5m max.

key bits:

David Bentley is set to be handed the golden ticket of a move to Manchester City, who last night closed in on a swap deal with Tottenham involving Bulgaria winger Martin Petrov.

The initial deal for Bentley will be a long-term loan, but it presents the chance for him to restart his career after a dismal 13-month spell at Spurs, who are also signing Niko Kranjcar from Portsmouth for a cut-price £2million.

If the Bentley deal can be completed before today’s 5pm deadline — and both managers want the deal to happen — then he will be reunited with Mark Hughes, the boss behind his most productive spell at Blackburn.

......

The deal also suits Spurs manager Harry Redknapp, who is looking for a left-sided
player to replace broken leg victim Luka Modric, who is out for at least six weeks. Chairman Daniel Levy was spearheading the talks last night.

Bulgarian Petrov, 30, a pacy winger, will want to prove himself after falling out with Hughes while Kranjcar will team up again with Redknapp, with whom he helped Portsmouth win the 2008 FA Cup.

I've not read about them falling out before. Anyone else?

What I dont understand is they paid £15 million for him, been shocking since he went there. Cant get in the Spuds side even as a sub. Twichy has been trying desperately to get rid of him since he got there.

Petrov is worth £7 - £8 million at least in this market.

So according to these reports we are effectively offering £ 22 - £23 million for him.

Could anyone actually look me in the face and say they would be happy with such a deal ? You have to draw the line somewhere.
Petrov is worth nothing like that. He's probably got 3 seasons at best left in him at top level. His injury record over the past 3 years casts doubt on how many games a season he'll manage. City got him at his peak for about 5m and I'd guess his value is about 2/3 of that now.

Re: I have just been told.............

I hope this is not true, bentley is one of the most overated players in the league, rather have SWP on the wing and still have Petrov at city than sign him.

Re: I have just been told.............

I don't want that bent **** screwing us over.

You mean this morning when Stoke offered that then?

Re: I have just been told.............

I have to admit that i don't personally like Bentley but if what the papers are saying is true about him coming on a long term loan(1-2 years) and petrov going to the spuds on a permanent then i think its a good deal for us. We are selling a player who is past his peak and is injury prone because he did his cruciate a couple of years before he joined us and then did his knee in again last season whereas Bentley hasnt had many injuries. Getting around 5 mil for a 30/31 year old and taking a 25 year old on loan who imo is just as good as Petrov atm and on his day is one of the best wingers in the premiership. Finally who made Bentley an England international and made the Spuds pay in excess of £15 mil for him? Mr Hughes! Says it all, get this deal done.
