Insanity work-out

I have completed the first two T-25 workouts and find it a' enjoyable intense' work out to say its just for 25 mins. I sometimes feel like bambi on ice on some of the criss cross and hop exercises.

Its only took me 2 days to work out 'nada' means nothing on the equipment needed. I was looking through my pack looking for something called nada.
What a numpty!
We've been doing T25 at work and yes it's good for a 25 min blast but it just makes me sweat rather than get out of breath, we did Speed 01 today and it was far too much stop/start until the last 7 mins, as you say though my co ordination is terrible sometimes funny as fuck watching others flail about.

6 days of Insanity left, found today really hard despite it being Max Plyo which I have done about 6 times now already, think something to do with the little 'un waking up twice in the night... drained! Weight seems to be plateauing, lost a stone but no more, but I have put on quite a bit of muscle.

Really looking forward to tomorrow, Max Cardio + Insane Abs, probably my favorite workout.

Will move on to T25 in a month or so, can anyone tell me how it compares to Insanity in terms of what I should expect? I plan on doing Alpha, Beta and Gamma consecutively, is it harder / easier and can I expect similar results to Insanity? I feel I really need to shift more weight to see the definition, is T25 a good choice?

It's not as intense as Insanity but it's easier on your joints although i'm only halfway through Alpha.

Don't be fooled that it's only 25 mins though as you still get a good sweat on, as they say, you get out what you put in.

I'm no expert but if you've plateaued it may be down to your nutrition more than you're workout, it's getting the right balance which i'm just getting the hang of myself, FantasyIreland or Dirty Harry are the best ones for guidance if required?

Can anyone recommend a yoga mat for P90x?

I don't really want to buy online without recommendation as it may turn out to be a piece of shit.

I am also considering the resistance bands route so I can take them on the road with me. Can anyone advise what variety of band weight I'll need to get?

Thanks

Thanks for the mention Danamy, Blutonium, you say you've plateaued mate but if you're using the scales as your only guide then it won't really be a true representation as your whole body composition will be changing (ie weight in new muscle replacing lost weight from fat etc), use the scales by all means, but go by what you see in the mirror and a tape measure mostly and make a note, something simple like waist, chest, legs and arms, nutrition-wise, just stick with the programme until the end, it'll be tried and tested for this type of thing to give best results all round, it may be just your body 'taking stock' before it moves on, but my (educated) guess and experience tells me it'll be the former mate.

Thanks mate I'll have a look into that

Decathlon sell good mats. I got the jigsaw type foam ones. Two packs for £20 and they are excellent.

One more day to go, did my max cardio this morning but the little one woke up shortly after so had to abandon insane abs and postpone until later today. Then tomorrow is the final fit test.

Seem to be on course for shedding 17 pounds in the 63 days, not as extreme as some I know but still a hell of a lot better than the alternative, me not doing this and sitting on my arse for 63 days. Plus, I did have three nights out during that time and each seemed to put me back 3 pounds each time. But for me any regime has to work for me in normal life too, I probably could have lost another half a stone or so by not drinking, but I am i this for the long term now anyway now so no big rush to lose weight.

Seen three inches go from my waist and an inch from my neck, still kicking myself for not doing a before photo but I genuinely thought I would probably not stick it out so why bother. I bought some shorts the other day in 'large' as I always do and have done for over a decade. Yesterday I had to take them back and swap for 'medium'. So, my results may not seem dramatic on paper but my body has changed. I am fitter, I am more alert and I am definitely up for T25 next.

Big thanks to everyone who contributed on this thread so far, you inspired me to actually take up the challenge and deserve a thank you.

For anyone thinking of taking this up, lurking on the thread but not committing (as I did for weeks) here's my brief thoughts on this programme:

1) It works if you stick with it. Watching what you eat + targeted exercise = weight loss and some definition. This is one method to do that.
2) That said, be realistic with your expectations. You ain't gonna look like Shaun T after 60 days of Insanity if you are not already well along that road anyway. If you put on that weight over 5 years, it is not coming off in 60 days. But some of it will.
3) Insanity requires full daily commitment. Not just to do 40-60 mins of exercise a day, but to eat well, buy the right foods each week, and move your life around the fact you are living Insanity, for 60 days at least. But it can be done and becomes easier.
4) Insanity, being based on plyometrics, will impact your knees. Now, I have a weak right knee anyway (cruciate damage) and I was able to do this with a good knee support, but if you are a keen runner for example, be aware. Not saying it will mess up your knees, but you will certainly ache like hell going up and down stairs.
5) It is possible to do Insanity if you are overweight, even obese, but do what you can rather than follow the guys on the dvd and maybe speak to your doctor first to see what is realistic.
6) Protein recovery shakes did make a difference for me. I tend to do my exercise early morning but have a banana and half a pint of water ten mins before, then instead of a meal I have a recovery shake and within 10 mins I feel normal.
7) Men, don't wear loose boxer shorts when exercising.
8) I wish I had done this years ago, ideally before we had the little one.

How are you all eating ? I imagine you are all burning major calories so are having to eat more to compensate

For me I aim for 1500 cals, 300 cals per meal five times a day. You are supposed to increase for month 2 but I didn't as my main goal was weight loss, some people feel they see even more weight loss when they eat a little more, but instead I stuck to around 1500-1600 and didn't feel too bad if I wanted an extra banana or sliced apple with peanut butter or something. Or if the chicken I had was 5oz instead of 4oz. In general the meals that come with the insanity literature are easy to make and source bits for I found. T25 looks a little more restrictive, but maybe that is a good thing as it also promises you can make 25 meals from 5 ingredients or something, may get samey but I think as long as you stick to the principles of eating the right nutrients in your meals over the day then it is is the right direction.

Recovery drink is a must for me too, makes a big difference for me, but I count that as one of my meals also.

As for calorie burning, some reckon a session of insanity at around 55 mins can burn over 100 cals if you also count an added effect on metabolism. I can't imagine it is quite that many unless you are beating the guys on the dvd every session but it must be a fair few each time.

The Max interval/Plyo circuits in the 2nd month have me burning around 700cals per session according to my HRM. This is calculated pretty accurately as all of my vital stats are programmed into it. Who knows how many more I burn post workout....

An hour of Zumba for me burns about 400/ 500 calories in an hour and I know insanity is more intense so I could see 800 cals burned easily. I suppose you factor in intensity + time spent + weight to get a calorie deficit.

The fitter you get the less you burn.
I'd say if you went straight into month 2 of insanity you'd burn over 1000 cals quite easily!!

Definitely, although I say you have to be quite fit in the first place (or at least determined) to complete an insanity session

Done it, stuck with it for the whole 63 days, I've surprised myself with that alone.

In my case bobmcfc I'd definitely say it was determination, and pretty unexpected determination at that, as before Insanity I had not been to the gym for 3 years and probably did a couple of hikes in The Lakes in the summer but that is it. It becomes easier, not just the exercises (well, not really the exercises at all - they get harder!) but the planning and eating to fuel your body to do it, and I'm now in the position where I would actually prefer to stick with some of the meal suggestions and routine. I will be doing another round of Max Cardio and Insane Abs this week, I am actually looking forward to it. Madness. I'm certainly not super fit even now, but compared to where I was 63 days ago I am a million times better off, from the way I feel to what I can actually accomplish.

bluetonium congrats!

I'd say for your next round up your caloric intake.I did the 2nd month at 1800 calories. Your body will go into starvation mode if you don't get enough.

This past week I was pretty bad on my diet as I had meals to go to etc, and even yesterday I opted to have grilled steak and a baked potato for dinner(about 700 cals). I've found eating slightly more has pulled me out of a plateau and I'm dropping weight a bit faster again.

Down to 12.5 stone, that's 5 stone gone in 3 months. Just the 6 lbs to go and I'll be a happy lad :)

Enjoying the T-25 Alpha at the moment. Just done a double wammy today doing the Lower Focus and Cardio. The Lower Focus is tough half way through when you have to do the lunges but otherwise ok. I have found the Ab intervals the hardest up to now and was aching for days afterwards.
