Depends what they mean by "put a bid in". Could be that we've spoken to Malaga and agreed a price but agreed to not formally submit it until after the U21's tournament. Then when we check that Malaga are happy, they say Madrid have offered more. A price can be agreed without a formal bid.

What is the status today then Prestwich?
Not heard a dicky bird to be honest.
It's interesting seeing how few actual leaks there seem to have been. Sure the Madrid press are reporting the same thing over and over, but even that seems odd. They keep declaring it only a few hours away and it's been over a day I think.

Re: Isco (Part 8 (weekend saga part 3))

I think its massively rattled them that the mighty real madrid may not be the first choice of every player known to man, look at their summer targets bale actually looks like he wants to stay at tottenham, cavani isnt pushing for a move to them and neither is isco.

Its like united its a sense of entitlement and as soon as they are no longer entitled its rattled them.

Marca were claiming "done deal" 2 days ago.

Thanks for the clarification. :)

This discussion has been moving so fast over the weekend I've had a hard time keeping the timeline in place in my head.

Re: Isco (Part 8 (weekend saga part 3))

Theres obviously something else going on behind the scenes, were not just 'not paying the buy-out'. Probably working out agreements with Malaga and a fee which can be drawn out, with Isco obviously waiting on us because he has clearly stated hed prefer to come here.

If it's true, a simple reason would be that they have to persuade Isco to sign. If he agrees, we do the deal, if he doesn't, we don't bother.

Did Real have to "convince" Isco before putting in a bid? I thought the way it goes is:

1. Buyer club inquires about a player
2. Buyer club puts in a bid based on the response from selling club
3. Buyer club negotiates terms and conditions with player
4. Player may or may not accept the transfer

That's how ideally it should be. Otherwise it is tapping up. We can technically accuse Real Madrid of tapping up Isco.

It doesn't actually matter which way round things go does it ?

In the end, Isco has to be willing to sign for City & Malaga have to accept an offer from us. We can talk to them without putting it in writing & then make it official when we are the highest bidder & Isco agrees to sign.

If Isco won't sign for us, we have nothing to gain by bidding.

Re: Isco (Part 8 (weekend saga part 3))

Yesterday AS were reporting it would be today and then today they were reporting that it would be next week. Marca are just printing contradictory nonsense.

Re: Isco (Part 8 (weekend saga part 3))

Well that was a good use of my lunch hour, I'm none the wiser after reading all today's updates.

If we do get him, he'd best be worth it after all this!

Isco isn't unlikely to go there, hasn't Bale talked them up? Cavani keeps going on about them too. One player who might have turned them down is Lewandowski though, which is a shame as it would have handed us a big advantage in the Cavani race.

Re: Isco (Part 8 (weekend saga part 3))

Just visited eurosport's transfer window. There is an article from AS about Isco's quotes about joining Madrid. The link was in spanish, so no idea what the article actually was saying. Must be one of those where headlines are twisted by those spanish tw*ts to suit their agenda

I'm not sure about that. Honestly the way this has played out appears from the outside that Madrid had little interest in him considering the talent stockpiled at the position but his outstanding performance at the U21 tournament has their fans and press rabid for the player. All this might be an appeasement. Even Madrid has to keep their fans content.

Re: Isco (Part 8 (weekend saga part 3))

It´s obvious that Isco haven´t signed anything...The Madrid press can´t imagine him going anywhere but to Madrid so they jumped the gun I think.

It's probably citykev getting a Bovril.

Isn't it Pellegrini's first day on the job. Probably be one of those SSN on the spot reports.

Re: Isco (Part 8 (weekend saga part 3))

IF it is just a fee that needs to be agreed and Isco would rather come to City is there any reason why we won't pay it?

Are we being stubborn like we were with the agents fees for Hazard and trying to prove a point?

I know its not that simple but, pay the money.

Pretty sure it does matter.
If a club is offering a player this and that, and making promises to the player. That can lead to the player forcing the move, and possibly even reducing the fee, even of the club doesn't want to sell.
Not saying its happened here, but its not the done thing to be luring players without the clubs permission.

Dicky Bird Estate is in Bury = We've buried the hatchet with Madrid and Isco is on his way?
