For that to happen, we'd likely have to be linked to the club for another player, which would throw off the ITKs (for B Silva, everyone thought we were talking to Monaco about Mendy and Mbappe, for example)

Not sure there's much in the rumor that it's a centre-back and, if it is, then the negotiations we've been involved with in Turin (allegedly for weeks) might be the key. They seem especially suspect now that Alves himself essentially removed Juventus from the equation.
I mean, we heard from multiple sources that City were hammering out a deal with Juve, for some time, that would be around £5 million then boom, Alves cancels his contract and we pay nowt. Maybe we were talking to the Old Lady about another player...?

If we get Sanchez + our full-back targets. We would be a top CB and a top CM/DM away from having the perfect squad IMO. Since Yaya/Ferna/Gundogan as the only Pivot/DM options carry their own risks due to age and injury issues. And our CB situation would rely too much on Kompany's fitness.

If we get a top CB this window too. Then might not only have the best attacking options in the league. But the best defense as well.
