Jack Grealish

130m? In this economy?! Fuck me. Let's just get Aouar and promote Palmer or hope that Kayky kid can hit the ground running.

I do really want Grealish but not for £130m. I’d honestly expect it to be around half that - which is still a lot of bloody money. If Villa are setting those kind of prices then the deal will never get done.

I have some sympathy for Villa fans in that Grealish leaving would be like us losing Foden.
However quoting how much money your owner has is fucking worthless with FFP(yes its still here both PL and UEFA), as one of the turkeys that voted for Christmas you should realise that. You cant spend any of his money until your income streams can cover it. The drawbridge was being raised and you covered your eyes hoping it would all be all right hoping they would fuck us because it didn't affect you. Well now it does because you want to get to where we are. It'll take you 20 years to get to where we did in 5 with a concerted maximisation of income and player purchase strategy but realistically you have no chance of getting a CL spot where the real money is.
Amidst all that Jack has to decide if he wants to stay in his little Villa pond and be a one club wonder boy with no trophies or use the talent he undoubtedly has at a higher level and see what he can really do surrounded by class. He could have his pick if he wants out. I realise he recently signed a decent contract at VIlla but surely that is to maintain his value if he goes. Villa are a great old club with a large fan base and have had plenty of success in the past but the illusion you can grow organically to compete with the big boys again is a delusion as the game is stacked against you. You and Everton and other great old clubs have been played like a fiddle in the great FFP stitch up. We warned you at the time but you didn't listen so now you have to stand in line and take it. You can wave your fake bank-notes at him when he comes back and boo and hiss if you like - no-one will give a fuck!
Beautiful

Great post.. now I would love Grealish to be honest..the only thing I would add is that being a star at Villa and a star at City are different..the leagues have been littered with stars who performed well for a team but never in a broader sense..Le Tissier, Worthington, Hoddle ,Bowles, Currie, and even your/our namesake Kinky to name but a few. One could also argue the opposite, would Phil have done the same at Villa,if not surrounded by great players, probably. I would take him for sure, but these stars for a medicocre team dont always cut the mustard when they move.

we already have plenty of creative players, we just need someone who can put the chances away! Let’s get Kane this summer then Harland next summer when his fee drops to about £60m. We had a great season but suffered against the grade A counter attack teams, we lost so many games where we couldn’t sniff out a goal. That Gundogan was our top scorer says a lot.

We just won the league with room to spare and a goal difference of 20+ more than the nearest rival with KDB and Raz not being able to finish a chocolate biscuit for most of the season. Torres makes all the right runs to get the tap ins...That said I dont disagree with what you feel we need but it isn't a reason not to buy Jack G. He's a no lose buy, he's English young and talented, his stock isn't falling far even if he has a right shitter at ours

As much as I like Grealish, and I do, I simply cannot see us or anyone spending 130 million on him. In terms of playing style, he’s actually rather similar to Depay (out of contract this summer), so there are cheaper alternatives, yet whether we could accommodate the latter’s ego is moot.
Like Depay? Really? They look like 2 completely different types of player to me when I’ve seen them play. Not saying you’re wrong btw, maybe we’ve just watched different matches? I could never see Depay be a CM or have you seen him play CM?

Both players have spent a fair bit of their careers on the left wing, with Grealish playing some games in centre midfield and Depay playing some games at centre forward. Irrespective of where their respective managers position them, what I mean is that they are quite similar in terms of their style of football. They both have explosive running power, excellent first touch in tight situations, and an ability to lead their teams. They also both play with an arrogance and swagger that make them Marmite characters.
