James McAtee

He won their player of the month today. Buzzing for him. Took a bit of time to adjust to physicality/different style of play but now looks very comfortable. In my opinion, a future city first team player
Is there a role for him? Hes playing pretty much as a #10 there and he'll be wasted out wide imo. Would pep trust him as one of the 8s?

Might not be a bad idea to bring him back and pad our midfield. A lot of players out of form after the world cup.

Even if its just a few minutes, those rested minutes for Bernardo and KDB could pay dividends down the line.

Well, that's one way to destroy his development I suppose.

Both Doyle and McAtee were taken off at 90m. McAtee was GASSED. JM was stuck between Bogle and Jebbison most of the match - not going to see much smoove pass and move action mixed with those two. Sheff won 2-0 btw

Couldn’t think of a worst thing for his development. Going from regular football to not playing at all

Interesting to hear Nedum say that the plan was for McAtee to stay and be part of the squad but Gundogan staying on meant that there wasn't enough room for him.

Maybe he really does have a future here.
Was Gundogan due to leave?
Would have been interesting to see how much game time McAtee would have got. He must be held in very high regard at the club

Came off at half time in their cup match against Wrexham today. Just before halftime he played a pretty reckless backpass that almost led to a goal - his manager looked pretty angry.

he is a decent player for a mid table side. but does not suit our style of play nor he is at such a high level to give him the free role to do his thing. unfortunately don't think he will make it here.

He went off injured apparently, he injured his ankle in the first minute when McBurnie scored and crashed into him

Not the best performance from him yesterday. He looks a bit lost in the side still and just couldn't really get into the game. I was hoping to see him really dominate and show some of his flair but it never really happened for him.

Will see how he gets on over the season. He's still young and undoubtedly talented. I think physically it's been a real learning curve for him, from his comfort zone in the EDS where he could run half the pitch and score with ease. Probably a player who needs a couple of seasons in the Championship before we know how good he is. I doubt Pep will have been too impressed by what he's seen so far.

He literally did that for Sheffield United a few weeks ago!

I’ve watched Sheffield Utd a fair bit this season just to see how Doyle and McAtee are getting on, and the football they play is absolutely shite. It doesn’t suit either of those players, particularly McAtee. Obviously it works as a whole as they’re second and will probably get promoted, but I could see them getting spanked regularly in the Premier League if they carry on playing like that. Even some of their own fans aren’t particularly impressed by the style of football - https://www.s24su.com/forum/threads/heckyball.93749/

Seems a strange loan to a club that plays such terrible football.

Unless it is to toughen him up.

Quite interesting how divided they are on it. So who on here is going to own up to being 'the crayon eating', 'diva', 'troll' that is Fallowfield Blade then ? (he's not wrong though)

That's a good point, that was a class goal to be fair! I should have added the word "regularly", because he seemed to constantly be running the games in the EDS and running the ball up the pitch after sharp footwork or a quick turn.

They could defo play better football with the players they have. Doyle looks more settled now probably because he sits a bit deeper but McAtee is often a passenger. It's not a wasted year either way. He's developing physically, learning that his ability isn't the only thing required to make it in the game - hard work, strength etc will be. And it's also a lesson for him that his style of play needs to be adaptable, although arguably that's not a lesson he needs!

Still very young and has a bright future ahead of him. Playing for City would be quite different for him, because he'd be playing with 10 other players who are on his wavelength.

For anyone judging him solely on a 45 mins to forget yesterday, please don't.

He is still returning from injury,he took another knock yesterday, and that game was definitely not one for he purist......in summary,it wasn't his day.

This loan overall has been a poor one,the football the Blades play was never suited to his game,so he was never going to look like the player he can be.However.....and surprisingly to me....he has made the most of a less than favourable environment and has used the experience to learn aspects of his game he would not have done in a less physical set up.

Those saying he isnt good enough.....its both far too early and too simplistic to make that conclusion - in another team, with better players,on his wavelength....he will be very different, and his style of play is very much suited to our's,he is basically the number 10 that was pivotal to our title winning/record breaking team of recent years.

The fact that Sheffield United are competing at the top of the table for a big prize will be great experience for our two lads and is a big plus factor for the loan.

The style of football might not be ideal but they are both getting regular game time and making positive contributions which is better than how quite a few loans have turned out for our prospects in the past.

In my opinion the loans are good for both Doyle and McAtee and will develop them as players and increase their potential value so win win. I get what FantasyIreland says about the loan not suiting McAtee's style but I am not sure which team at Championship level would have been willing to base their game around a 19 year old loanee's playing style (age at the start of the season).
