James McAtee

Personally feel like city might clear the academy decks this summer and cash in on a few. If we sell harwood Bellis, Tommy Doyle, callum doyle, McAtee and possibly even Cole Palmer, then City are probably looking at 80/90 mil in profit from academy sales. All have had good seasons on loan this year so we can get good fees and that Ignores other deals like borges, charles, Delap etc.

Would like to see McAtee given a chance at city, but none of these players seem immediately in Pep's thinking and we could pretty much pay for bellingham purely off what we'll get if we sell say 75% of those lads.

If we sell players like Macatee we’d 100% regret it. Players like him will save us millions. I’d also say if someone like Macatee isn’t at least given a chance that’s pretty poor considering his talent

Doubt he ever gets a chance in our club next season or if ever. he is just not a pep midfielder. he plays more like a winger or a no10 who is more interested in getting goals rather than controlling the midfield. as long as KDB is here and we use the current formation there is no option for him here.
I think it depends upon what amount of playing time he would be satisfied with. If he would be happy to start in the early rounds of the domestic cups and (hopefully) a few CL group dead rubbers plus sub time when we are leading 3-0 in league games then there is a role for him.

If he wants to start games more frequently then a loan or move with buyback would be favoured. Personally I think he could stay for the first half of next season then, if limited on appearances, spend the second half on loan. This would give him the chance to be coached by Pep and the possibility of establishing himself in the squad. He is still very young and there is no need to make hasty decisions about his career.

It would be interesting to see if we could get him a loan move to a foreign champions league team like Dortmund. That experience if he could break into the team would be priceless.

I doubt Dortmund, their youth model revolves around making profit, they would have no interest in developing one of ours unless there was an option to purchase.

don't think it will be good for his development. there is no way in hell he gets ahead of KDB or Alvarez in the 10 position. besides we are also likely to buy another player in the window. at best he can get few minutes here and there if palmer leaves on loan and he replaces palmer's minutes.

talent alone does not guarantee a place in our team. depends on his playstyle, tactics and manager. as long as pep is manager and we use current tactics it is unlikely mcatee can get a chance here. besides someone like perrone is a bigger midfield talent than mcatee and he suits our game more. it is best for macatee to follow lavia's progression and get a move away from city. no use for him to go from couple thousands of minutes playtime this year to a few hundred next year.

Even if he's not going to play for us, selling McAtee this summer makes no sense given the trajectory he's on and the fee he would get after a season being one of Sheffield United's best players in the PL.

We might get 20m tops for him now. If he has a good season next year we could get 50m.

Good finish by McAtee... but oddly, the more I watched Sheffield United play (and it's tough)...

It's clear the best player on that team is Iliman Ndiaye, he is so good on the ball, and only 23 years old.

We never buy from the championship because of our standard but he is young enough and talented enough imo to give a chance on.

A lot of negativity on here for a player, who regardless of potential, has now scored 8 goals in the Championship this season.
It's also worth noting that virtually every goal and assist has been critical, because invariably McAtee gets hooked when the game is won, or only appears from the bench when they need a goal.

Whether he should stay at Sheffield United is a completely different argument,. especially as teams such as Burnley, Brighton or even Villa might be more suitable
However,. depending on which players leave (and some of those in the 32-33 age bracket will need to be phased out) there might be a midfield slot and enough games for McAtee to prosper at the ETIHAD

Ndiaye is definitely their best player (although I think he’s a bit too greedy at times) but interesting McAtee has a much better goals per minute ratio than him this season. McAtee would probably be on 20-25 goals if he’d played a full season (he’s only played 1600 minutes in the league)
