James McAtee

Other than Foden.. McAtee is the highest rated prospect from the academy in the past 15 years. He's even better rated than Rico......
He looks like Merlin's offspring to me, slightly better than Diaz and I would say better suited to play in the MF than Foden. He had a great season with SU and I can only hope Pep include him in the first team for the next season.

I don't see Merlin in his game that much. Macca has an eye for the goal more than Silva ever had tbh. Are there some elements that are similar? Sure.

Seems more like a Muller/Maddison hybrid game wise.

He's looking very promising - as a regular starter.

The one thing we can't do is chain him to our bench.

I get your worries about the bench but he might just have needed the confidence of this one loan move to know he can do it in the men's game, sometimes players have that one lower league loan and they're sorted and mentally prepared to fight for a place, not saying it's defo the case but McAtee may well have experienced his career rite of passage with this loan.

If he feels he's ready for the fight as alluded to in the above tweet we should assess him in preseason before deciding anything, he isn't the same as Gundogan or Bernardo in style but our style is constantly evolving, we wouldn't have envisaged not having any lighting quick wingers a good few years back now none of them are pace whores, it's all about being technically proficient and it leaves less chance of being countered.

We don't need exact mirrors of the players that succeed our established first team players, we still haven't replaced David Silva because we couldn't and still can't so we adapted to something different, it could very well be the same when Gundo and Bernie leave James McAtee might just be ready to fight for a place.

It could be him staying put cementing a squad place and Cole Palmer having his rite of passage on loan next season.

JM and Doyle hit the right post within about 5 secs of each other but no joy, 0-0 at HT, Jude is in the stadium watching his lil bro play for Birm

I suspect the Blades will be trying very hard to secure his services, one way or another, next season.

The same with Doyle,so expect a 15/20m bid for at least one of them.

Unless they get some major investment and Ndiaye and Berge stick around he’d be a fool to go back to Sheffield Utd. I could easily see them losing most weeks and only getting 30% possession so I’m not sure what he’d learn from that

I thought this past season would be a write off for him,but he adapted and grew,so i'm not convinced......but yes,on the face of it....Burnley would look to be a better option.

There is also the not to be underestimated emotional attachment he has clearly built up.

At least as someone who prefers Wednesday i can remove Sheff Utd from my flash scores favourite teams!

Good point but that is something that should be tempered. Always thought Patrick Roberts allowed his heart to overrule his head when he returned to Celtic, for a year of the same, and it all went spectacularly wrong.

The Scottish league is very rarely a good choice, mostly a place for underachievers and end of lifers.
I think if he can get regular football in a Prem side, regardless of who they are.....then thats a good move at this stage.

Depends, thats the side of his game thats needed the work. We know hes a star on the ball even before he left on this loan. He's added some steel already, could be the making of a complete mid.

I hope he continue his loan

Let him another full season in the PL, then he can take Gundogan spot in the middle.

It would be great to keep him with City next season, he's definitely got the potential to do a job for us. But at 20 it also wouldn't be the worst thing to see him loaned out again for a year, as long as it was at prem level and we were confident he'd get more minutes.

He might take the pre season by the scruff and force his way into the squad. It's up to him.
