So lets look at the positives first, he is six foot five, and City have some of the smallest CB`s in the league, he can use both feet, so he can play either CB position, he is 23 so has up to 10 years left, he was out injured a fair bit last season, but when he came back his team improved dramatically , Everton player of the year, he has PL experience. Negatives he is as slow as Stones, Ake and Dias. Why we should pay £ 70 million for him, there is a 30 year gap between Stones, Akanji, Ake, and Kushanov, Ries, Bah, the 3 defenders bought in january, Doyle is getting sold. So you have 2 defenders who started last season crap, as your only 2 fit and experienced CB`s.We have seven centre backs in our squad as it stands, two of whom could barely even get a spot on the bench after signing for us in January.
Nine, if you include Bah and Doyle coming back from their loans.
I just can’t see any way that we’ll be looking to add to our CB quota when we’ve got massive holes to address in the squad at FB, Midfield and potentially in Goal.
Makes no sense at all!
An alternative way to look at this, buy Al Nouri for LWB, promote McFarlane to LB, Ake, Gvardiol as LCB, Dias, Branthwaite, CB, Stones, Akanji, RCB, Nunes RWB, Khusanov RB, with Bah and Ries playing in the U21 where they will be available for the first team, and of course anyone who does not feel like they will get game time, with this new very physical coach, being allowed to leave.
