Sorry about the double thread...

I think we're all bought into the mantra of two players for every position. I'm not sure Pants quite cuts it - so you bring in a solid keeper who can bush him. I would have said the QPR keeper (but he's gone?) so I'd go for begovic

Bush him hey !!!!!

Shrek and cleverly made some howlers tonight. Both had easy chances to score and missed. Keepers seem to get hung out to dry if they make a mistake.

Because it usually leads to a goal for the opposition.
I played in goal for years and it comes with the territory. Unfortunately for goalkeepers is, if the left back fucks up and leads to your mistake, most will forget the left back's mistake.

-- Wed Aug 14, 2013 11:28 pm --

I dont think Begovic would swap first team football for bench warming tbh.

It has been discussed, who should we get in?

How many decent keepers will come to City and be left with the chance they will get splinters on their arse because they are trying to dislodge Joe Hart. If he needs competition like everyone says, then it will obviously see him excel. Like having Given, the other keeper will not play 2nd fiddle for long and want out. Otherwise we dislodge Hart, ship him out and we end up possibly in the same situation.

Kick him up the arse, show him he's droppable and give him some good coaching and he will be fine for me.

this in a nutshell , excellent post , joe is still a good keeper , but like any player can lose form , i was hoping joe would have a brilliant game tonight and ram my comments down my throat , but he just proved my point . The management need to act , if he drops a clanger against newcastle the press will murder him , he still a young keeper and has set very high standards , stick him on the bench for a couple of games ,hes a confident lad and he believes in his ability , he will come back more determined than ever.

In terms of bench warming, we're happy to have 4 top strikers tho - and have paid 20 mill plus for all of them

I think Joe is a great keeper, but IMHO his performance level is dropping and I do think he needs a bit of bushing, erm, pushing

You can have 1,2 or 3 playing at any one time. It's also more knackering playing up front than in goal, especially as we attack a lot, so strikers need rest more often than goalkeepers. Also because there is more option to play more than one of them, they know they will get game time, where as if there is a preferred keeper, how many substitute keepers get to come off the bench or step in whilst the first choice get's a rest?

More often than not, the defence of the team needs to be consistent and often the same to form understanding and a solid defence, and sometimes it is good to change up the attack as it gives us more options and catches the opposition out.

Your assuming that I mean chop and change them - I don't. Get a new strong keeper in and let them fight it out for the job. If the newbie wins then so be it.

Agreed - some are raising the Golden Gloves argument and he played a huge part in acquiring that award in the 11/12 season, in which he was incredible, but the 12/13 season was more down to the defensive setup. Hart's standards have dropped, it's very clear (his best performances were actually in the Champions League last season, he saved our arse against Dortmund but such performances were rare), and it's his nationality and connection to the club as an 'almost' homegrown player that is protecting him from extra pressure. Were he foreign, I think he'd be under serious pressure after his amount of unforced errors last season (only Al Habsi at relegated Wigan had more) and we'd probably hear names like Ter Stegen linked to us.

I think he has done enough to be given a chance to show what he's capable of this season though and to suggest we sell him is way OTT. Hypothetically though, were he to have another dodgy season with errors like tonight's, the club would have a real dilemma on what to do... it'd be very difficult for the club to ever sell Hart I feel for several reasons. Huge season for him I think.
