I'm sure united might be tempted by some cold, hard cash for De Gea ;-)
When Lukaku scored last week the bloke in front turned round and said (I compress) "Any other Prem keeper and we'd be 6 points better off, unbeaten in the Champs League and would have got a win at Stoke"

"Rubbish" I said while trying to think who is in goal for Cardiff "Joe kept at clean sheet at Stoke"

"He can't kick either" said de niro
You have to sit on the back row in de niro's executive box by the sounds of it, GH ;-)

And he's completely wrong, Joe's a good keeper and easily better than most in the PL, but there's no doubt that De Gea is better and quite possibly by some margin, sadly.

Yeah but.... who has the best hair?

De Gea too, I'm afraid to say.

Really? Are you basing this just on current form?

No. It's a conclusion I arrived at about halfway through last season. I think De Gea will be in the top three keepers in the world within the next couple of years. He's always been a great shot-stopper, but now he's bulked up which means he isn't getting bullied like he was previously, plus his handling and judgement have discernibly improved. He's a top, top keeper imo.

Joe is a very good keeper and I don't see him as a liability per se, but I'd say he was a notch down from the very best, I'm afraid.

Fair enough but when Joe was the age De Gea is now what was your opinion of him?

I only ask because apart from his distribution I felt Joe was up there with the best of them and was impressed that he was doing it consistently at such a young age.

He has had a dip from his high standards over the last 12-18months but surely he can bounce back to where he was at?

I have no doubt he'll bounce back and people comparing him to Robinson, for example, are comically wide of the mark.

I've never been convinced of his greatness, however, and on that basis where he bounces back to, will still fall short of the very best and when I state that I'm talking top 3-5 keepers in the world. No shame in that.

If anyone had said after our home game against Dortmund a year ago that De Gea was better than Hart they would have been laughed out of court. Even United players were describing Hart as the best in the world.

De Gea has improved since then and Hart isn't playing anything like as well. That seems to me to be combination of form, lack of confidence and probably some technical errors that have crept into his game. I don't see any reason why Hart cannot re-gain the standards that he set against Dortmund.

Interesting to read Peter Shilton's comments today on the goal he conceded against Poland in 1973. He said that after that he reviewed his technique and made some adjustments which helped him reach the standards he achieved when playing for Forest. No reason why Hart cannot do the same.

Cheers for the responses. It's good to see honest opinions without the hyperbole one way or another.

who else tho' GDH? Obviously not Ruddy or Forster but I reckon Red Ben Foster would have had Joe's England shirt by now if he wasn't injured

then there's the foreign legion - Lloris, Cech, Mignolet, Friedel, Begovic, Stekelenberg, Boruc, Krul, Howard, Jaaskelainen, McGregor, Schwarzer, Guzan, Szczesny and the rest - most of them would have done better than Joe has this season I reckon. He's got a big job on to restore his reputation but he's with the right club and the right international team to do it. Come on Joe, tell Manuel to keep his hands off his Willy!

Count the mistakes per game for Hart in every game he has had, divide it by the number of games - on one hand?

Count the mistakes per game for an outfielder in every game they featured, divide it by the number of games - on one hand?

Do the same with the mistakes we got away with...

add sensational The Sun style headline?

Very good acton.

"Mistakes", this is another thing that's getting to me in this whole debate. The last time I recall Joe making a mistake in a City shirt was against Southampton last season.

There have been moments since where he could've and probably should've done better but it's funny how these incidents are regarded as mistakes.

If a striker doesn't hit a shot well enough is that a mistake?

If a winger doesn't find a team mate with a cross is that a mistake?

I could go on but you get the idea.

anyone thinking de gea is anywhere near as good as joe needs their head testing. joe is on a wobble, his kicking is still shit but it is just that, a wobble.

Must be the shampoo... I can prove it... Mats Hummels has been bad lately and even lost his starting spot for the national team...

I just remarked that it is the same advert in Germany and England - just with different players...

fair play to the kid he did well tonight.

still got to turn it around in a city shirt though.
