Gvardiol is the most important signing we could make this summer.

-A leftfooted CB who can defend wide 1v1 is a must to get the best out of this current system
-A Defender who can move into DM is absolutely necessary.
Rico and Stones are the only players who can do the latter
Ake is the only one who can do the former.

Gvardiol has the current skillset and potential to do both

Given Ake and Stones 'like' an injury, our lack of FBs who can come inside into a 2, the likelihood that Akanji will be needed more on the right next season, not to mention he's just 21, Gvardiol is ideal

He is a mix of Ake, Laporte and (with some 'pausa' coaching from Pep) Stones. Anything around 80m would be looked back on in years to come as a bargain.

were not paying for Laporte's minutes were paying for a 21 year old cb who can stay for 10+ years who is tipped to be one of the best defenders in the world.

Ake and stones to some extent have injury records and if one of them breaks down were fucked so pep wants a defender so he can rotate and have flexibility. You've also got to continuously improve the team or you'll end up stale.

bench Ake?..you can but then he`s gone next season & a high turnover of players every season is bad for team chemistry...if we sell Laporte & another defensiv player (like it seems Walker) then it would perhaps make sense

Imo Gvardiol is not fast enough to defend quick wingers in the new 3/4 CB system..that`s why Laporte didn`t get much game time anymore
