Ketogenic Diet

Everything everyone eats and everyone’s eating habits are a “diet”.

Does anyone notice that when you are a low carb eater how you think more clearly and have more positive outlook on things? And how you feel less sluggish both in body and mind?

That's pretty much my favourite thing about it and why I've carried on eating this way and why I have MCT oil in the morning because it gives me a blast of ketones to my brain to set me up for the day. My concentration levels increase quite a lot for my work and I definitely feel more positive.

I also make pink Himalayan salt capsules that I pop 2 or 3 times a day as I find that makes me feel good too, after reading about keeping your sodium levels up. Some people need more sodium than others and I've learnt I fall into that category.

You don’t think weight loss/gain is down to calorie deficit/surplus?

You could eat just McDonalds every day but so long as your calorie intake is less than you burn through living, breathing and exercising then you’ll lose weight.

Great pics! CONGRATULATIONS!

I don’t believe all calories are equal, and while calorie deficiency may result in weight loss, the use of fat for energy, versus sugars continuously taken in, is better. That’s that “thermogenics” discussion you were having. Surely, that not calories out but a function of how the machine is operating.

I believe large calorie deficiency isn’t a long term weight loss method, unless you plan to be calorie deficient for life.

Lastly, I don’t believe human weight is solely a function of calories. We are far more complex than the “machine mentality” of X in, X out. I think we will soon discover that our DNA is a massive dictator, or, at a minimum, precursor, of our stable weight.

Again, well done! I’ve no idea if that’s really you or not, but those pics are testament to good work! 50lbs is 50lbs!

I wouldn't try it if I needed to lose weight , to be honest. It was initialy designed for people suffering from epilepsy. I think the best diet is one where you balance everything instead of going low on carbs or something.
Give up bread, sugary drinks actually sugar in general (you can eat fruits though as sugar is low and theres always fiber in them which reduce your body's propensity the store it as fat), and try to exercise at least 3 times a week (cardio if youre trying to lose weight) and you'll be fine and healthy.
I also recommend intermittent fasting.

I take it you’re referring to the late, great Vince Gironda ?
One of my personal favourites back in the day, didn’t agree with everything he said, but waaaaay ahead of his time !

I loved his book unleashing the wild physique, virtually my bible when I competed many years ago!

Can reverse diabetes and i am at very high genetic risk and living on junk, endorsed by the diabetic society and many studies done on it on tv , quick way to get rid of apple shape and extra weight that can give you diabetes, the veggie version is not as strict in many ways and i still eat fruit in strict moderation. Intermittent fasting is a part of this but in hours not days

Thanks , the first week is hell but after that no cravings and feeling full all the time and i get to eat clotted cream, result
Imagine when you were a kid being told you could eat as much fatty food as possible and you'd somehow lose weight, you'd be sent to an asylum

Ha, i have spent all my adult life eating low fat not realising that is packed with sugar instead , it did take a mind shift that is for sure

Does seem counter intuitive to everything we’ve ever been told by the industry. Mrs MB tried this, good weight loss but she struggled to keep her macros right; too low on fat and too high on protein down. Was at one point drinking fat in coffee. In the end her doctor demand she fuck it off as it really messed with her insides.

I enjoyed it because I could have crispy bacon with my fry ups

The veggie version is mostly about nuts and seeds , veggie cheese , small amount butter , small amount of berries, full fat greek yogurt and salad and veggies , i have clotted cream and non sugar jelly every day to feed my sweet tooth, i do a seventeen hour overnight fast , got into ketosis in a couple of days and not dropped out once , did bung me up initially but really suits me , not for everyone i am sure

A means to an end for many.I,personaly, wouldn't recommend it as a lifestyle.

Dr's arent the best to offer advice where diet/nutrition and exercise are concerned IME.

People know when they are unhealthy or have an unhealthy diet etc, even people with conditions that prevent them from rigorous exercise can't or wont eat more healthily .

The greatest arbiter of our heath is ourselves, responsibility is the key word here.

Couldnt agree more,we live in a selfish, irresponsible and arrogant society where many are happy to blame their faults on others and to allow others to take the reigns.
