Looking back, how do you feel about Hughes now?

Hughes last 10 games = 11 points
Mancini first 3 games = 9 points

:)
Now you're being unfair to Hughes. They weren't his players and they needed time to gel and he bought great players and he needed more time and and and
;-)

I just wish we had Bobby Manc from the start of the season. We'd be competing for the title if he was.

I still feel the way i felt over the last 12 months, he was never ever good enough to be manager of our team, the only credit he can take from it is he has built a good squad and has made some terrific signings, that's the only credibility he can take from all this, but it's pointless and it means nothing if you can't train the players or look after them, on paper we improved but on the pitch we didn't improve much,

I said from day one he was always out of his depth, especially when they money arrived, an inept manager with players like robinho in your side is like cat and mouse, everyone says we haven't played anyone BIG yet, remember Hull, Burnley and Fulham?, 3 games we should have won and if we did we would be top of the premiership on 47 points, 3 draws against average sides at home with the team we have, simply not good enough,

Hughes tactics and bizarre setups were clear to see, and he never ever had a Plan B if needed, he couldn't change a game tactically, 34,000 people could highlight a problem on the pitch, only hughes and his backroom staff never saw it,

It's no co-incidence since his departure the level of football has rised, the mentality of the team has increased, the back 4 look like a completely different back 4

thats cos they are.... Ha Ha , <couldnt resist>.

lol, the kompany/richards partnership is brilliant, we have nedum and lescott aswell to come back, oh and toure! gonna be interesting.

Hughes can take a lot of credit for where we are, he just wasnt good enough to take us the extra mile.

Its Hughes's team thats in fourth place right now, just playing better under better management.

THIS^^^^^^^

Hughes built an incredible team for a top manager to work with, perhaps Hughes could have got there in time, but this season was too good an opportunity to throw away.

I don't think Hughes would have WON all 4 of the last games, definitely don't think he would have won all 4 comfortably though. Especially with all the injuries, and he also would have mentioned all the injuries before games to provide an early excuse should things go wrong, thus giving the team an excuse to play at their best i think.

Hughes has been very dignified in this (more than the board deserve) so I don't really have a bad word to say about him. His good points were beating the big teams and being very good in the transfer market, and we are reaping the benefits of this now with a more tactically minded manager who can also beat the lower teams.

All just part of the journey!

My sentiments exactly.

Don't forget a Hughes team is always stronger in the second half of the season.:)

Shame he didn't go earlier, a lot of us could see it wasn't going to work. I refer to something I have said in the past.

'Could you ever see Hughes on the touchline at a Champs League Final?

and could you see Mancini there?

I don't always agree with the Fat El Hombre but he is bang on with this one (and he always gives a rational argument too).
there is so much good comment on this thread. My tuppence worth is:

1) We would not have won the last four games with Hughes in charge,
2) We would have conceded more than one goal per game with Hughes team,
3) I have my optimism back,
4) If we had started the season with Mancini, we would now be first or second in the league,
5) Mancini is the REAL Special One, I feel it in my bones.

18 months ago I thought he was average, I now think I overestimated him.

He did OK buying, paid over the odds sometimes, got the occasional bargain sometimes, a so so performance in the market overall. He failed miserably at the squad/team management because of a complete lack of tactical nouse and poor interpersonal skills.

If the game was fantasy football where you pick players to be magicked into your side then sit back and watch the points rack up he'd do OK, he's had 18 months of practice at it.
