Still relive that Charlton game now . I was 15 it was mental that day in the Kippax. Think I know every word off the MOTD commentary I watched it so many times
Still got it on a VHS somewhere!

It really was a day that goes down in the history of our club. I still thought we’d blow it - then Andy May’s header went in and the party started! Great day. Great times.

I had some mighty fine times in the 1970's and early 1980's with the guys with whom I watched City home and away, all over the country. A fellow Bluemooner on here (BillT) and me go back a lifetime and still go to home games together - long in the tooth as we are nowadays. Real characters like Denys Stott, Tommy Patient ("TP"), The Monk, Billy & John Howard & Co (AKA 'F - Troop"), my old mates Mike ('Carruthers'), Alan ('Gally') and many, many others. Some no longer with us but the memories never fade.
Mad times, but great times !

I remember Barry Davies being disgusted with those fans who invaded after the first goal, lol. He did exactly the same 8 years later for the Spurs quarter final

That would be Mark Bittner and "Tiny" Ted Davies. I've got a small booklet up in the loft (with all my old programmes from that time) that Mark made, titled "Songs of the Kippax". Most of those songs have appeared in previous threads on old songs.

I knew Mark very well and we used to meet up in town and go all over the place in the late 60/70s. He had a mate who worked in the Ticket Office at Piccadilly Station and he managed to get 8 train tickets to Euston for about 10/- each, on the Friday prior to the League Cup Final v WBA.

I've always been fascinated by City's away following in the 1970s, essentially because it seemed to vary from 10,000 to a just couple of coachloads.
Denis Law scores at Birmingham and you can literally hear a pin drop on You Tube, as one fan claps in the background. However, the following season, we lose 4-0, and you see a whole group of City fans refusing to celebrate their 2nd goal
Similarly, we seemed to take thousands to Ashton Gate in 76-77, but hardly anyone to Roker Park earlier in the season.
I've often wondered how you even knew which stand to go to. At least by the time I started going regularly (80-81) there always seemed to be a specific away end.

I think in those days it came down to money.
I was on £6 a week so I had to choose my away games

I did both the Bristol & Sunderland games and you're right, I wonder if it was down to reputations, although I came close to getting knifed at Bristol when I was expecting it to be a walk in the park. As for Sunderland, went on the special and I reckon there was less than 50 on it, the walk from Seaburn station to the ground was ok but they all came out of the pubs to laugh at our following, I asked one of them who joined our escort if we were going to 'get it', he said no as there weren't enough of us, fair play.
I'm fairly sure we all went in the paddock with the big open end to our right.
