Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

Marca reporting that if Valencia dont negotiate then they will move onto Forlan.

Barcelona will give an ultimatum from one week to the Valencia so that it accepts or it rejects the supply of 40 million that Villa has done by David. Laporta does not think to move of that amount although it would be arranged to negotiate within the operation the cession of Martin Cáceres and Keirrison. There is a determining factor. Guardiola has demanded the club that the hirings of the forward, left central and lateral defense are resolute before the equipment throws to walk. And the date of presentation of the players is next day 20 first thing in the morning. If Villa does not want to come, or rather saying, the Valencia does not want to sell, Laporta will give instructions to Begiristain so that it reopens the Forlán option. Villa is the main objective of the azulgrana, but the forward of the Athletic one also well is seen by Guardiola. In addition, its cost would be noticeably inferior since its crossing would leave by about 25 million Euros although its clause is of 36.

Things are developing all the time. We need Valencia to accept IMO, although it looks as though they have Forlan as a backup which indicates that Eto'o is not in their plans.

He is only 28 mate!

Got years left in him.

This. He's a world class striker in his prime. Would be a stratospheric signing ;)

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

Mail are reporting that Barca are looking at reducing the transfer fee, so that he can then get a signing on fee from us................it's looking good and too much water has passed under the bridge for him to stay at Barca.

I think Villa will go to Barca, and that then just leaves Ribery to go to Real.

United will be looking around for scraps.

Marca is 100% Real Madrid and just like causing mischief for Barcelona.

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

Just been sent this by a mate:

From the main spanish sports daily
translated from spanish
Reports in Spain suggest the lengthy transfer debacle surrounding Manchester City and Barcelona showed signs of a conclusion, after the Catalan giants agreed to lower their asking price for the Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto’o, as the European Champions are desperate to tie up a deal for Valencia star David Villa.
Spanish Sport publication indicate Eto’o has agreed to a €10 million a year contract at Manchester City, but the player has demanded a large compensation package from his current employers which they are seemingly reluctant to pay.
Barcelona have subsequently lowered their asking price for the three times African player of the year in the hope City might then decide to pay part of Eto’o’s rather puzzling compensation deal.
The striker scored 36 goals last season and is widely regarded as one of the finest strikers in Europe, but with just one year left on his current deal and reluctant to sign an extension on the same terms, the two parties are at loggerheads.
Mark Hughes has pinpointed the former Real Madrid striker as the player capable of catapulting City into the higher echelons of English football, while Barcelona have now set their sights on Valencia striker David Villa. The European champions want to use the money earned from Eto’o’s sale to bring Villa to the Nou Camp, and reports in Spain suggest a happy medium is nearing conclusion.

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

Here i am again bringing you more news in the form of translations from john over on mancityfans this time.

"Although he is on holiday, Samuel Eto'o is in permanent contact with Jose Maria Mesalles so as to be informed of the latest news about his future and know first hand how the negotiations are panning out. The Cameroon frontman is spending a few days in the US, New York to be precise, in the expectation of finally having confirmed which will be his destination City when the negotiations end and the football returns

"Aunque se encuentra de vacaciones, Samuel Eto’o se mantiene en contacto permanente con José María Mesalles para estar informado de las últimas noticias en torno a su futuro y saber de primera mano cómo se resuelven las negociaciones. El delantero camerunés está pasando unos días en Estados Unidos, en concreto en Nueva York, a la espera de que finalmente le confirmen cuál será su ciudad de destino cuando finalice las vacaciones y regrese a la práctica del fútbol"

Woo hoo.

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

Good news generally though in the above post the capitalisation of the word City in the translation is inaccurate and gives a skim reader the impression that 'destination= City'
the word 'ciudad' is generic and some papers have been referring to the club as El City .

I feel confident but let's keep our info as accurate as possible.

Exactly. cual ciudad sera su destino = which city will be his destination.

Neither good nor bad I would say. As the poster above said, the word ciudad means city, as in la ciudad de Madrid (the city of Madrid). They wouldn't translate Manchester City to Ciudad de Manchester. It would be "El Manchester City" or simply "El City".

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

He is already public and well-known: the relation between Samuel Eto' or and the Barça returns to happen for a moment extremely difficult, probably the one that more including already distant espisodio of Vilafranca, and in normal circumstances the recent scenes, worthy of a vodevil, would be the waiting room of the immediate exit of the Cameroun forward. But with Eto' or, it is reason why it is, is never no ' circumstances normales'. So, to day of today, that nobody discarding still that Eto' or it leaves in póster of Barça 2009-10. The key is, like almost always, Pep Guardiola. The trainer of the three times champion knows the club very clearly must be over everything, of personal tastes and individual ambitions. Translated, that means that if Eto' or it continues being in his group day 20 will return to work with him so that it gives the best thing of itself, something that already has let know in the club. On the contrary that president Joan Laporta, Guardiola has itself you take care of much in abrir the mouth since it closed the best season of the history of Spanish soccer conquering all the titles in dispute. It does a year, the day of its presentation like trainer of the first equipment just, made public who did not count on Ronaldinho, with Deco nor with Eto' or for the course that was going to initiate. Both first they went away, but the third party remained, and Guardiola rejected its initial plan and counted on Eto' or to such an extent that has been key in the conquest of the triplet culé with its 36 official goals. The idea was not to make noise This time Guardiola knew very clearly was not going to do just like in its debut in the bench of the Camp Nou and that the decisions would be made privately, without light nor stenographers. And it is reason why it is, and although this time it would not make public, Guardiola preferred not to count on Eto' or this year, because it is evident that the club had not put of so flagrant form to ' 9' in the market without plácet of the technician. It happens that they have made it quese so rare has poisoned the relation, as demonstrates the crossing of reproaches between Laporta and the agent of the player, Josep Maria Mesalles. As always, he will have to come Guardiola with the hose to also extinguish this fire.

Taken from El Mundo Deportivo and translated through babelFish.

Can anybody make any sense out of it?

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

In essence Joan wants to sell
Pep - not sure but if he wants a job might have to stick him on the bench.
Eto o got a dispute over contract and loyalty payment
Barca have to sort it out, but if they don't player will return for training because he is under contract

Add in the bit about City and Barca maybe sharing the loyalty bonus and there you have perfect solution. Allows Barca then to go for Villa or Forlan.
